The extensive renovation project at the AAA Four-Diamond luxury property includes all 225 guestrooms and public spaces, including rotunda suites and the presidential suite, guestroom corridors and the lobby area. Guests can expect to see fresh, elegant designs and décor throughout the public spaces, including beautiful marble flooring in the style and design reminiscent of the 1900s era.

Renovations to the popular Red Piano Lounge have been completed and complement the bar’s style of laid-back luxury. Enhancements include updated flooring, tables, seating and a new red piano. Renovations to the Skirvin’s stunning lobby are nearing completion and focus on the addition of natural light for added attention to the property’s historic architecture. The lobby flooring has also been replaced with beautiful granite and marble to reflect the hotel’s original design intent. All remaining improvements will be completed in September.

According to John Weeman, principal of Skirvin Partners in Development, “The new Skirvin lobby wall coverings reflect the original gothic design intent of developer Bill Skirvin when the hotel originally opened in 1911.”

“The renovations will enhance the guest experience at the Skirvin Hilton, while maintaining the historic significance of the hotel. We are careful to pay attention to the historic nature and beauty of the hotel, as well as meeting the demands of today’s travelers. The Skirvin Hilton Hotel continues to serve as an important part of the city’s past and future,” said Joseph Khairallah, chief operating officer of Marcus Hotels & Resorts.

In 2007, Marcus Hotels & Resorts and Skirvin Partners in Development, completed a $55 million renovation and restoration of the historic landmark hotel, returning the property to its former glory as the social center of Oklahoma City. Leveraging its over 50 years of experience in restoring landmark hotels, Marcus Hotels & Resorts carefully retained the property’s historic details throughout the renovation and also introduced successful food and beverage concepts including the Park Avenue Grill and Red Piano Lounge.

“Since re-opening in 2007, the Skirvin Hilton Hotel has been a tremendous asset to the city and assisted in the growth and revitalization of the downtown. Through the addition of unique programs such as the Artist-in-Residence program that supports our local arts organizations and hosting many of the city’s galas, weddings and premier events, the Skirvin Hilton continues to play a vital role in the community. We look forward to further enhancing the guest experience through the current renovations,” said Gerald Rappaport, general manager.

Grow It! Buy. Build. Convert. Adapt

A9R1iajott_1vxes5t_5jw

DENVER—A panel of industry experts shared their perspective on the current trends of new-builds, conversions and adaptive-reuse projects during the 2016 Hotel Business Executive Round-table—“Grow It! Buy. Build. Convert. Adapt. What’s Trending Now?” held at the RLHC office here on May 11.

The roundtable was cohosted by RLHC (Red Lion Hotels Corporation) and Commonwealth Hotels, LLC. Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. Real Estate and Hospitality Services, ProfitSword, LLC and Simmons Hospitality Bedding sponsored the roundtable. Stefani C. O’Connor, executive news editor, Hotel Business, and managing editor/roundtables, served as moderator.

While financial insiders have expressed pessi-mism regarding the construction outlook of the hospitality industry, a number of hotel operators have shared their optimism, according to Bruce Baltin, SVP, CBRE Hotels/Americas Research. And, as some markets in the U.S., such as New York City and Houston, have experienced develop-ment challenges, others—like some in the state of California—have been prospering.

“Right now, there is financial opportunity for select-service,” said Baltin. “It’s become tougher to develop full-service hotels, but select-service ho-tels limit group business. I think we need more of a balance of both full- and select-service.”

To provide consumers with that balance, some hoteliers are turning to “hybrid select-service” models, according to the panelists. “We’re de-veloping select-service hotels with enhanced F&B and significant meeting space, along with high-concept bars,” said Brian Fry, president of Commonwealth Hotels. “Decisions vary upon each market and ownership needs. Both full- and select-service hotels have value depending on who the customer is.”

The Pfister Hotel, Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, Skirvin Hilton and Hilton Milwaukee again receive AAA Four Diamond Rating in 2016

Milwaukee, Wis., April 20, 2016. . . . .Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a nationally recognized hotel owner and management company and division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced that four of its owned and managed properties have again received the AAA Four Diamond Award in 2016.

The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, Wis., remains one of only 12 hotels in North America that have maintained AAA Four Diamond status for 40 consecutive years since the Diamond Ratings were first introduced in 1976. The Grand Geneva Resort & Spa in Lake Geneva, Wis. maintained AAA Four Diamond status for 18 consecutive years; the Skirvin Hilton in Oklahoma City, Okla. received the rating for the ninth consecutive year and the Hilton Milwaukee in Milwaukee, Wis. received the rating for the fifth consecutive year.

The Pfister Hotel, Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, Skirvin Hilton and Hilton Milwaukee are part of a select group of establishments within North America. Hotels at this level are committed to providing every guest with a personalized experience and attentive service in comfortable, high-quality surroundings, according to AAA. They typically offer an extensive array of amenities and guest services.

“Providing extraordinary experiences for our guests is the core of our business. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our staff and the extraordinary service they provide,” said Joseph Khairallah, chief operating officer of Marcus Hotels & Resorts.

“AAA is pleased to recognize The Pfister Hotel, Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, Skirvin Hilton and Hilton Milwaukee as Four Diamond hotels,” said Michael Petrone, AAA director of content development. “Maintaining exceptional standards required for this rating on a daily basis is an outstanding achievement. AAA Four Diamond establishments are attentive to guests’ needs and consistently deliver memorable travel and dining experiences.”
