Marcus Hotels & Resorts Announces Executive Management Promotions

Milwaukee, Wis., May 29, 2013. . . . .Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced two executive management promotions. Scott Shoenberger has been promoted to senior vice president – operations and acquisitions and Peggy Williams-Smith has been promoted to corporate vice president of food & beverage.

Shoenberger will assume responsibility for transitioning the company’s new acquisitions and management contracts to its growing portfolio, while continuing to oversee the hotel operations of several Marcus Hotels’ properties.

Williams-Smith will assume responsibility for standardizing and expanding the company’s food and beverage operations, including popular food and beverage brands such as the ChopHouse and Miller Time Pub & Grill.

Shoenberger has more than 30 years of hotel industry experience.  He joined Marcus Hotels & Resorts in 2005 and most recently served as vice president of operations.   Prior to Marcus Hotels & Resorts, he served in various positions at The Irvine Company, Noble House Hotels & Resorts, Olympus Hospitality and Dusit Hotels & Resorts, overseeing acquisitions and managing leading hotel properties that received national and international acclaim.  His work prior to joining Marcus Hotels & Resorts included overseeing the assets of Hotel La Jolla, La Jolla, Calif.; LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort, Naples, Fla.; Grove Isle Resort & Spa, Coconut Grove, Fla.; Ocean Key Resort, Key West, Fla.; Hotel ZAZA, Dallas, Texas; The Warwick Hotel, Houston, Texas; Equinox Resort & Spa, Manchester Village, Vt.; Cuisinart Resort & Spa, Anguilla; Hotel Kura Hulanda, Otrobanda, Curacao and Little Palm Island Resort & Spa in the Florida Keys.

Shoenberger has served on various boards including Starwood Hotels & Resorts Owner’s Advisory Council, Florida Gulf Coast University School of Hospitality & Resort Management and the Economic Development Council of Collier County, Fla.  He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Denver.

Williams-Smith joined Marcus Hotels & Resorts as a catering manager with the Hilton Milwaukee in 1997. During her career with the company, she served in a variety of positions, including director of catering for the Hilton Milwaukee and The Pfister Hotel, general manager of Brynwood Country Club and most recently, as senior corporate director, catering sales and event management. Williams-Smith is the current president of TEMPO Milwaukee, and serves on the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association and United Cerebral Palsy of Southeastern Wisconsin. She also volunteers her time with Junior Achievement, United Way, Best Buddies and the United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF). Williams-Smith graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Milwaukee IndyFest Street Party – Thursday, June 13 adjacent to the Hilton Milwaukee

Based on last year’s success, Marcus Hotels & Resorts is ready to kick-off the 2013 Milwaukee IndyFest with its second annual Milwaukee IndyFest Street Party Thursday, June 13 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the parking lot located on 5th and Wisconsin streets across from the Hilton Milwaukee hotel.  The street party is FREE to all attendees and is open to the public.  After the street party ends at 10 p.m., the celebration continues in the Miller Time Pub & Grill.

Even better than last year, guests can look forward to:

  • Live music beginning at 5 p.m. with Uprising, a local pop/rock band and finishing with Milwaukee favorite, The Eddie Butts Band

Milwaukee, Wis., May 2, 2013. . . . .Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced it has reintroduced its Miller Time Pub & Grill concept, creating a comfortable, neighborhood social spot while paying homage to its beer-inspired roots.

The new concept is about the perfect pairing of beer and food.  To enhance the dining experience, the restaurant, in partnership with world-class brewer MillerCoors, offers more than 25 draft options and over 50 brands of beers in a variety of growlers, yards or flights.  Changes to service include staffed certified cicerones (beer experts) who are trained and tested on their beer knowledge, and available to help guests find perfect beer pairings for every menu selection.  The expanded menu features a variety of specially crafted burgers, along with lighter, healthier salads, hearty entrees including crab cakes, fish, chicken, steak and an intriguing selection of desserts.  The new brand offers a beer of the month, happy-hour drafts, beer dinners and beer flights – perfect for the beer enthusiast or novice who wants to learn more about their favorite brew.

James A. Waldvogel, General Manager of the Hilton Minneapolis/Bloomington, to Receive Marquette University Alumni National Award

Waldvogel, general manager of the Hilton Minneapolis/Bloomington in Bloomington, Minn., has been named a 2013 Marquette University Alumni National Award recipient. The National Awards honor Marquette alumni who embody the Marquette mission of excellence, faith, leadership and service. Waldvogel will receive the Service Award from the College of Business Administration. Marcus Hotels & Resorts manages the Hilton Minneapolis/Bloomington.

Marcus Hotels & Resorts Announces Leadership Changes at the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa and Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark

Milwaukee, Wis., February 26, 2013. . . . .Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced Leslie Johnson has been appointed director of sales and marketing for the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa and Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark in Lake Geneva, Wis. The company has also appointed Gerald Rappaport as general manager of Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark.

Johnson has been with Marcus Hotels & Resorts for five years in a number of capacities, including serving as director of restaurant sales and promotions for the company’s Milwaukee restaurants, director of rooms at the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, and most recently, general manager of Timber Ridge.

“Leslie has been a tremendous asset to our team.  I know her strong leadership abilities and more than 15 years in the lodging industry will enable her to position the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa as the premier travel destination in Wisconsin and the surrounding areas, ” said Kirk A. The Beverly Garland Hotel in North Hollywood, Calif., Appoints Scott A. Mills as General Manager

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (February 20, 2013) – The Beverly Garland Hotel, in North Hollywood, Calif., has announced the appointment of Scott A. The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, Wis., has maintained AAA Four Diamond status for 37 consecutive years since the Diamond Ratings were first introduced in 1976.  The Grand Geneva Resort & Spa in Lake Geneva, Wis. received AAA Four Diamond status for 16consecutive years; the Westin Columbus in Columbus, Ohio received the rating for 17 consecutive years; the Skirvin Hilton in Oklahoma City, Okla. received the rating for the seventh consecutive year and the Hilton Milwaukee in Milwaukee, Wis. received the rating for the third consecutive year.

Four Diamond Award ratings are among the most well-known and respected trademarks in the global travel industry.  As part of the rating process, AAA trained inspectors conduct unannounced on-site hotel evaluations based on cleanliness, comfort and hospitality.  A total of 1,535 hotels throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean received the Four Diamond Rating in the past 12 months, qualifying them for the 2013 Four Diamond Award® list.

Richard R. Robbins, Jr. Appointed General Manager of Westin Atlanta Perimeter North

Atlanta, Ga., January 22, 2013. . . . . Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced that Richard R. Robbins, Jr. has been appointed general manager of the Westin Atlanta Perimeter North hotel in Atlanta, Ga.  Robbins has over 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry.  The Westin Atlanta Perimeter North is managed by Marcus Hotels & Resorts. The hotel is owned by Carey Watermark Investors, The Arden Group and Marcus Hotels & Resorts.

Robbins will be responsible for overseeing the general operations of the 372-room hotel, as well as the upcoming $14 million renovation of the hotel’s guestrooms and public spaces.  The extensive renovations are expected to be completed in early 2014.  Robbins joins Marcus Hotels & Resorts with a strong background in the Atlanta market, having previously served as the executive director for the Georgia Hotel & Lodging Association and as the director of operations for the Sheraton Colony Square Hotel in Atlanta.

Most recently, Robbins was general manager of the Crowne Plaza Melbourne Oceanfront Resort & Spa in Melbourne, Fla.  He began his career with Hyatt Hotels as an executive assistant manager at the Hyatt Charlotte in Charlotte, N.C., and later at the Hyatt Regency in Indianapolis, Ind.  After leaving Hyatt, Robbins served as a managing director, director of operations, general manager and area general manager for other top management companies including Interstate Hotels & Resorts, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Richfield Hospitality and HEI Hotels & Resorts.
