The 2015 Golf Season Kicks Off with New Packages and Two Golf Classics to Honor the Local and Regional Golf Community

The AAA Four-Diamond Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, owned and managed by Marcus? Hotels & Resorts, will kick off the 2015 golf season on March 28, 2015. In addition, Grand Geneva has set the dates for the inaugural Spring Golf Classic for Sunday, May 31, 2015, and the second annual Fall Golf Classic will take place Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015. Both 18-hole tournaments will be held on the award-winning Brute course.

“Not only are we eager for golf season to commence, but we’re excited to host two Golf Classics this year, which really serves as a ‘thank you’ to our golf community,” said David Hallenbeck, director of golf. “We want to offer our loyal fan base an exciting way to celebrate all the memories made here with a Spring and Fall Golf Classic.”

A Watery Weekend Getaway: 3 Nearby Resorts

By: Wendy Donahue

Have time for a full-immersion water park experience? These three destinations require an overnight stay, but not even a full tank of gas.

Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark in Lake Geneva
About an hour and a half from Chicago, older kids can cascade down Timber Rapids and Avalanche Falls, perched 30 feet high at Moose Mountain Falls, Timber Ridge Lodge’s 50,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor water park. Tranquility seekers might drop in the lazy river that laps along for 500 feet. Little kids can splash down in the Tiny Timbers area with mini-slides, swings, spouts and a mushroom waterfall. Kids ages 7 to 10 can try their hand at the rope climb or water basketball in the activity pool. Booking a one-bedroom hotel suite for one night gets you four free water park passes; a two-bedroom gets you six. (The resort throws in towels for your on-site use too.)

Where: 7020 Grand Geneva Way, Lake Geneva (866-636-4502, timberridgeresort.com)

When: Water park is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily through the end of April

Cost: Rates and availability vary; a one-bedroom package that includes one free breakfast, lunch or dinner per child at Smokey’s BBQ House (with a paying adult) starts at $249.

Great golf courses plentiful in state

By: Brian E. Clark

Come March, Bill Linneman’s fancy — and that of many other Badger State golfers — turns to getting out on one of Wisconsin’s numerous courses, even if there is new snow on the ground.

“Most golfers really get an inkling for the game when you are watching March Madness basketball and you see all those commercials for the Masters Tournament on television, which gets rolling the first week of April,” said Linneman, director of rules and competition for the Wisconsin State Golf Association.

Great golf courses plentiful around Wisconsin

Come March, Bill Linneman’s fancy — and that of many other Badger State golfers — turns to getting out on one of Wisconsin’s numerous courses, even if there is new snow on the ground.

“Most golfers really get an inkling for the game when you are watching March Madness basketball and you see all those commercials for the Masters Tournament on television, which gets rolling the first week of April,” said Linneman, director of rules and competition for the Wisconsin State Golf Association.

“When that happens, you really know the golf season is right around the immediate corner for sure,” added Linneman, who figures he has played on 150 to 200 courses and been on more than 300 Wisconsin courses in his 25 years of working for the WSGA.

Military Marriage Blessed by a Fairy Godmother

Recently we had a truly memorable military wedding that occurred at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, located in Lake Geneva, WI. It was so touching, I just had to share.

Zachary and Samantha Schnabl were married in a last-minute ceremony on December 27, 2014 – six months earlier than their original wedding date due to Zachary’s rescheduled deployment date. Left with just days to plan an entire wedding, the couple rushed to book a location, find a dress and still enjoy their short time together.

When all was said and done, Zachary and Samantha had decided upon an intimate wedding in the lobby of Grand Geneva surrounded by their closest friends and family, officiated by Zachary’s father.

But what truly makes this memory one for the books occurred after there big moment. When the couple went to pay the bill, they were told there was no charge! During the public ceremony, a bystander was so moved that she quietly paid for the entire ceremony and reception. The “fairy godmother” of the Schanbl wedding is a frequent guest of the resort and requested to remain anonymous – however, she sends her best wishes to the happy couple.
