Avanti Lal & Sanjeev Bhatia

The Couple: Avanti Lal, a speech pathologist, met Sanjeev, an orthopedic surgeon, in Chicago through a mutual friend. Grand Geneva Resort offers plenty of winter activities

By: Brian Clark

When Hugh Hefner opened the Lake Geneva Playboy Club Hotel back in 1968, it was the place to be for, well, swingers who enjoyed top entertainers like Sonny and Cher, Bob Hope, George Carlin, Ann-Margret, Buddy Rich and Dyan Cannon.

The 1, 300-acre resort boasted two tournament-style golf courses, horse stables, four restaurants, an airport, a ski lodge, a 15-acre lake and a wildlife refuge.

The club also had Hefner’s signature Playboy Bunnies: attractive young women who paraded around the grounds in corsets and high heels with puffy tails and rabbit ears.

Now known as the Grand Geneva, the human bunnies are long gone from the resort, which has been operated by the Milwaukee-based Marcus Corp. since 1993.

These days, it attracts plenty of families with young children.

If you are not a big skier, and you and your children are anxious to learn, where does the family start? How does a downhill skiing novice introduce their child to the slopes?

Here are a handful tips for beginner ski families to keep in mind.
