Hilton Madison Monona Terrace Celebrates Decade-Long Partnership with The University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center
The hotel has raised nearly $70,000 since 2014 through its Carbone Ribbon Room
Madison, Wis., October 16, 2025 – Hilton Madison Monona Terrace, an award-winning property of Marcus Hotels & Resorts, is proud to mark a decade-long partnership with The University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center. Since 2014, the hotel has been raising funds for the Carbone Cancer Center in a unique way: its Carbone Ribbon Room. For each night the room is reserved, Marcus Hotels & Resorts makes a $25 donation. This has raised nearly $70,000 to advance groundbreaking cancer research over the last decade. “This partnership has meant a lot to all of us at Hilton Madison Monona Terrace,” said Philip Salud, interim general manager of Hilton Madison Monona Terrace. “It is more than just raising funds; it is about making a difference for patients and their loved ones. Many patients, families and those impacted by cancer have stayed in our Carbone Ribbon Room, finding not only rest but also hope and support during their journey.” The Carbone Ribbon Room originated from a former Hilton Madison employee, who had the idea to create a space for those going through cancer treatment, their loved ones visiting them, or survivors who want to support the Carbone Cancer Center. This corner room features stunning views of both Lake Monona and Downtown Madison with large, oversized windows on two walls. It was designed by hotel associates and a cancer survivor to create a special space to inspire hope and healing. To help uplift patients, families, and all those touched by cancer, the Carbone Ribbon Room includes inspirational reading books, a journal to share heartfelt messages and stories, and custom artwork by Madison artist and cancer survivor, Angelina Paoli. The room brings a hopeful and inspirational environment to its guests, creating a comforting experience during their stay. “We are so grateful for our partnership with Hilton Madison Monona Terrace,” said Janie Winston, senior director of development at the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center. “This partnership has raised helpful funds that fuel vital research as we navigate the complexities of this aggressive disease. I invite anyone who would like to help support our mission to stay in the beautiful Carbone Ribbon Room and know the impact being made on so many people.” The generosity and strength of the partnership extends to the hotel’s associates as well. Recently, Executive Chef, Christopher Running, participated in the Badger Challenge on September 21, 2025. He raised money for the Carbone Cancer Center on behalf of Hilton Madison Monona Terrace. The Badger Challenge is an annual walking, running and biking event that raises funds to help advance cancer research and treatment at the University of Wisconsin. Running’s participation in the fundraiser furthered the hotel’s existing support of the Carbone Cancer Center.
