Marcus Hotels & Resorts Announces General Manager Appointments at the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, Hotel Phillips and Skirvin Hotel

Milwaukee, Wis., January 27, 2014. . . . .Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced that Tom Mason has been appointed managing director of the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa in Lake Geneva, Wis., Gerald Rappaport has been appointed general manager of the Hotel Phillips in Kansas City, Mo. and Brett Sundstrom has been appointed general manager of the Skirvin Hilton in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Mason joins Marcus Hotels & Resorts with over 30 years of hospitality experience.  He began his career with Hyatt Hotels Corporation in 1981.  His career includes serving as general manager of the Hyatt Regency Knoxville in Knoxville, Tenn., and the Hyatt Regency, Hyatt Whitney and Radisson Plaza Hotel, all located in Minneapolis, Minn.  He also served as asset manager of the Turnstone Group and most recently served as vice president of operations for The Service Company, a national provider of comprehensive hotel and casino cleaning services.  Mason has been recognized as General Manager of the Year by Radisson Hotels.  He is a graduate of Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in business.

Rappaport returned to Marcus Hotels & Resorts in March of 2013 to serve as general manager of the company’s Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark in Lake Geneva, Wis., and most recently served as interim general manager of the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa.  The Hotel Phillips will mark the fifth hotel he has managed for Marcus Hotels & Resorts.  Rappaport previously served as general manager of the Hilton Milwaukee and the InterContinental Milwaukee.  Prior to returning to Marcus Hotels, he was general manager of the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee.

Sundstrom began his career with Marcus Hotels & Resorts in 2008 as a project manager in the corporate office.  While at Marcus Hotels, he served as general manager of Xona Resort & Suites in Scottsdale, Ariz. and managing director of the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa.  Originally from the Oklahoma area, he most recently served as interim general manager of the Skirvin Hilton prior to his promotion.  Sundstrom is a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s degree in hotel and management and a minor in business.

The Marcus Corporation Commemorates Historic Pfister Hotel’s 120th Anniversary with First Edition Hardcover Keepsake Book

Milwaukee, Wis., December 3, 2013. . . . .Just in time for the holidays, The Marcus Corporation (NYSE:MCS) is proud to unveil “The History, Art & Imagery of The Pfister Hotel” first edition hardcover book to commemorate the iconic Pfister Hotel’s 120th anniversary.  Distinguished by exemplary and original photography, the book captures the timeless beauty, hospitable personality and elegance this world-class hotel has offered generations since its opening in 1893.

This historic Milwaukee landmark was built in 1893, and was considered the “grand hotel of the west.”  The vision of its founding fathers, Charles and Guido Pfister, was to have a “palace for the people” – a place of heritage, richness and tradition.  A grand dame of showplaces for decades, The Pfister’s reputation for quality, comfort and elegance enabled the hotel to attract every U.S. President since McKinley, as well as hundreds of celebrities, sports figures and world dignitaries.

Published by The Marcus Corporation and registered with the Library of Congress, the book’s 283 pages are filled with breathtaking photography by Milwaukee photographer Jay Filter. Written by Thomas Jordan and designed by Steve Biel, both also from Milwaukee, the “coffee table” book details the hotel’s simple, yet elegant architecture and history, showcasing ironwork railings and staircases, exquisite chandeliers, the Victorian front desk that has greeted guests since 1893 and original paintings collected by Charles Pfister himself.  The stunning images tell the story of The Pfister through its beauty and serenity, which will never go out of style.  The photos take the reader back in time to when there was a billiards room, barbershop and cigar store, now home to the relaxing WELL Spa and Salon.  The book shares with its readers places where brides have stood on their wedding day looking down over the lobby, where guests are greeted daily and where U.S. Presidents have slept.

Filter is a retired advertising agency executive, who after hiring dozens of photographers to execute his vision, decided to take up the craft himself.  He has won countless national and international awards.  Several of his pieces are featured in college textbooks on Advertising and Marketing and a number of his works are now archived in the Library of Congress.

Transformation Underway at the Westin® Atlanta Perimeter North

Marcus Hotels & Resorts Appoints Mahesh Reddy to General Manager of the Platinum Hotel & Spa in Las Vegas, Nev.

Milwaukee, Wis., October 10, 2013. . . . . Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced that Mahesh Reddy has been appointed general manager of the Platinum Hotel & Spa in Las Vegas, Nev. Reddy previously served as the general manager of the Westin Columbus in Columbus, Ohio, which is also managed by Marcus Hotels & Resorts.

The Marcus Corporation Announces Resignation of Kirk A. Rose

Milwaukee, Wis., Sept. 24, 2013….. The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS) today announced the resignation of Kirk A. Rose, president of Marcus Hotels & Resorts. Rose, who joined the company in January 2013, is leaving to pursue an opportunity to return to his roots in finance as the chief financial officer of a family office based in Chicago.

Gregory S. Marcus, president and chief executive officer of The Marcus Corporation, said a search for a replacement is already underway. During the search process, Thomas F. Kissinger, senior executive vice president, general counsel and secretary, will lead the Marcus Hotels & Resorts division. In addition, William H. Reynolds, Jr., senior managing director of MCS Capital LLC, The Marcus Corporation’s hotel investment affiliate, will add oversight of all hotel development activities to his responsibilities.

Marcus® Hotels & Resorts Appoints Joseph Khairallah to Chief Operating Officer and Jeff Peterson to Vice President of Operations

Milwaukee, Wis., September 23, 2013. . . . .Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced that Joseph Khairallah has been appointed chief operating officer and Jeff Peterson has joined the company as vice president of operations.

A seasoned hospitality veteran, Khairallah began a 30-year career with Hyatt Hotels in 1983 at the Grand Hyatt New York in New York, N.Y. and has worked in various locations and roles for the global hospitality company. In his most recent role as vice president of rooms, spa and security for Hyatt Americas Group, Khairallah supported 383 hotels and was directly responsible for the oversight of 155 properties, playing a lead role in opening the new luxury Andaz Maui at Wailea resort in Wailea, Hawaii. Additionally, he oversaw the operations of 30 existing spas and was instrumental in preparing for the opening of 10 new spas within the Hyatt portfolio. Other highlights during his tenure with Hyatt include serving as vice president of rooms for the company’s international group, where he was responsible for 115 hotels throughout the globe, and general manager of the Hyatt Regency in Montreal where he oversaw a multi-million dollar rebranding and renovation of the property.  Khairallah graduated from the prestigious Istitut Haulot in Brussels, Belgium, with a hotel management degree.

Peterson joins Marcus Hotels & Resorts with 18 years of hospitality industry experience in a variety of roles at Hyatt Hotels Corporation.  He joined Hyatt in 1991 as director of finance and most recently served as vice president, corporate transactions/global asset management, where he was responsible for asset management and execution of financial transactions involving Hyatt’s existing hotel real estate assets, joint ventures and management agreements.  Most recently, Peterson served as chief financial officer of Ticketmaster Resale, a division of Ticketmaster/Live Nation, the second largest company in the online resale ticket industry.  Peterson, a CPA, began his career in public accounting at the international accounting firm, KPMG.  He graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.  He serves on the Board of Directors as treasurer of Have Dreams, a non-for-profit that delivers direct services to children and young adults with autism.

Marcus® Hotels & Resorts Opens Second Miller Time Pub & Grill in Lincoln, Neb.

Milwaukee, Wis., Sept. 12, 2013. . . . .Marcus Hotels & Resorts, a division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced its second Miller Time Pub & Grill opened today in Lincoln, Neb. in the iconic The Cornhusker, A Marriott Hotel. The hotel, which is majority owned and managed by Marcus Hotels & Resorts, is undergoing a major renovation and the restaurant is the first of many new additions.

The new restaurant creates a comfortable, neighborhood social spot while pairing the perfect beer with the perfect bite. The restaurant is hosting a grand opening event Thursday, September 12, which kicks off with a special ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, followed by a block party open to the public that will offer live music, cialis giveaways, food tastings, $1.00 taps of domestic Miller products and more.  A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit local charity TEAM Jack in support of pediatric brain cancer research.

Marcus® Hotels & Resorts Announces Leadership Changes at The Skirvin Hilton Hotel and Westin Atlanta Perimeter North

Milwaukee, Wis., September 6, 2013. . . . .Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced two hotel general manager appointments. Martin van der Laan, former general manager of the historic AAA Four Diamond Skirvin Hilton Hotel in Oklahoma City, Okla., has been appointed general manager of the company’s Westin Atlanta Perimeter North hotel in Atlanta, Ga. and industry leader Roseann Grippo has been named the new general manager of the Skirvin Hilton Hotel.

Van der Laan joined Marcus Hotels & Resorts in 2008. During his time with the company, he has served as general manager of the Platinum Hotel and Spa in Las Vegas, Nev. and the Xona Resort Suites in Scottsdale, Ariz.  He joined the Skirvin Hilton in 2011 and since then has led the hotel in achieving service scores in the top five-percent for the Hilton brand. Under his leadership, the Skirvin Hilton was named 2012 Best Hotel in Oklahoma City and in the state of Oklahoma by U.S. News & World Report and was one of only four Hilton Hotels included on the list.  The hotel has also received a AAA Four Diamond rating since its reopening in 2007.  Born and raised in Holland, Van der Laan’s 30-year hospitality career includes working for six-star cruise operations and luxury hotels in Switzerland, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Nevada and Florida.

Grippo brings 24 years of hospitality experience to Marcus Hotels & Resorts. A long-time veteran of the Hawaii hotel industry, she most recently served as general manager of the legendary Kahala Hotel & Resort in Honolulu, Hawaii, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2014. Under her leadership, The Kahala received numerous awards from major tourism publications and organizations, including Forbes Travel Guide, Conde Nast, Travel + Leisure and TripAdvisor.  She also initiated the hotel’s first James Beard Foundation Dinner, which resulted in funding to establish a new scholarship in the hotel’s name at the Culinary Arts School at Kapiolani Community College.  Prior to joining TheKahala, Grippo worked with Starwood Hotels and Resorts for nearly a decade in positions including manager of the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, Starwood’s flagship property in Hawaii, and director of food and beverage for Starwood in Hawaii and French Polynesia. Her career also includes 13 years with Hyatt Hotels and Resorts Worldwide.

Marcus Hotels & Resorts Names Paul Ohm General Manager of the Pfister® Hotel

Milwaukee, Wis., July 1, 2013. . . . . Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced that Paul Ohm has been appointed general manager of the AAA Four-Diamond Pfister® Hotel in Milwaukee, Wis.  Ohm has more than 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry and previously served as general manager of the Fairmont Newport Beach, a 450-room luxury hotel in southern California.

Ohm will be responsible for overseeing the general operations of the 307-room hotel, as well as the upcoming renovations of the hotel’s 176 tower guest rooms slated to begin in fall 2013.  Ohm joins Marcus Hotels & Resorts with a strong background in hospitality. He began his career with the Hyatt Regency Columbus in food and beverage, and served in various positions with Hyatt Hotels in locations including Chicago, San Francisco and Maui.  In 2000, Ohm joined Starwood Hotels & Resorts as the director of food and beverage for the Kapalua Bay Hotel in Maui, Hawaii.  In 2005, he took the role of director of operations for The Fairmont Washington D.C. hotel.  He also served as an opening team member for new hotels while at Fairmont, which included the re-branding of the Hotel Heliopolis in Cairo, Egypt to a Fairmont hotel.
