Marcus Hotels & Resorts Promotes Danica Potier to Executive Director of Sales for its Milwaukee Market

Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a nationally recognized owner and management company and division of The Marcus Corporation, today announced the promotion of Danica Potier to executive director of sales for the company’s Milwaukee market. In this role, she will manage the sales teams for Marcus Hotels & Resorts’ flagship properties – Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel, The Pfister Hotel, and Hilton Milwaukee City Center. Potier will also continue to maintain and build relationships with key corporate accounts and serve as a key leader of the overall sales team.

With over 25 years in the hospitality industry, Potier most recently served as area director of sales for the company’s Milwaukee properties. She began her career with Marriott branded properties throughout the U.S. before joining Marcus Hotels & Resorts in 2009 as director of restaurant sales and promotions. She continued to grow her career at properties throughout the greater Milwaukee area before returning to Marcus Hotels & Resorts in 2019 as area assistant director of sales. Potier is involved with several industry organizations, including the Wisconsin Hotel & Lodging Association, Global Business Travel Association and Meeting Professional International. She is also passionate about helping those interested in a career in hospitality. Potier serves on the advisory board for the hospitality program in the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District and as a mentor with LAUNCH, a mentorship program for high school students interested in learning more about in-demand careers in industries like hospitality. In addition, she is an engaged partner with Milwaukee Area Technical College and Waukesha County Technical College in Pewaukee, Wisconsin where she is a guest speaker for hospitality and leadership courses as well as a volunteer for their events

Potier holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western Governors University in Salt Lake City and an associate degree in hospitality and restaurant management from Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton, Wisconsin. In addition to her professional experience, Potier is active in her community as a long-time volunteer for March of Dimes.

Drusch was promoted to general manager of The Pfister Hotel and managing director of both The Pfister Hotel and Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel, succeeding Tim Smith who retired this fall. Johnson was promoted to general manager of Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel, succeeding Drusch.

Drusch has over 15 years in the hospitality industry, beginning his career while still in college. He most recently served as general manager at Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel since 2020. Under his leadership, Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel became a AAA Four Diamond property in 2021 and has been honored by Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards as one of the top hotels in the Midwest for three consecutive years. Prior to this role, he served in various operational leadership positions while at The Pfister Hotel and Hilton Milwaukee City Center, both Marcus Hotels & Resorts’ properties. He also held management roles at properties in the Phoenix-area at the start of his career. In his new role as managing director and general manager of The Pfister Hotel, Drusch will oversee operations of The Pfister Hotel and Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel.

Drusch holds a bachelor’s degree in justice studies from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. He also serves on the Greater Milwaukee Hotel & Lodging Association’s board of directors. In 2022, Drusch was named a Milwaukee Business Journal 40 Under 40 recipient for his significant contributions to the hospitality industry and the local community.

Johnson has more than 25 years of experience in hotel group sales and has spent the majority of her career at Marcus Hotels & Resorts. She most recently served as executive director of sales for Marcus Hotels & Resorts’ Milwaukee market since 2021. In this role, she managed the sales teams for the company’s three Milwaukee properties – Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel, The Pfister Hotel, and Hilton Milwaukee City Center – while developing new members of the sales teams and maintaining strong relationships with several key corporate accounts. Prior to this, Johnson held various sales management roles with the company and its portfolio. In her new role as general manager of Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel, Johnson will manage the 219-room property in the heart of the city’s entertainment and theater district. She will lead the team as they invite guests to experience the arts in new ways, like through the hotel’s multiple gallery and exhibition spaces, numerous culinary destinations, as well as nightly live music and performances.

Johnson serves as a member of Professional Dimensions, the leading women’s professional association in the Milwaukee area, and TEMPO, the largest professional women’s group in Wisconsin. She is also part of United Way’s Emerging Leaders program. Marcus Hotels & Resorts Appoints Chris Schaefer as Vice President of Food and Beverage

Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a nationally recognized owner and management company and division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced the appointment of Chris Schaefer as vice president of food and beverage. In his new role, Schaefer will oversee catering, banquets, and more than 40 signature restaurants, bars and lounges across Marcus Hotels & Resorts’ 17 properties. He will also be responsible for strategic planning, restaurant design and concepting, and talent development throughout the company’s food and beverage portfolio.

With over 20 years of experience in the food and beverage industry, Schaefer most recently served as corporate director of food and beverage at Noble House Hotels & Resorts, a Seattle-based hotel ownership and management group. In this role, Schaefer was responsible for all food and beverage operations for the company’s 20 properties. Prior to this position, he served as food and beverage director of Noble House Hotels & Resorts’ Palm Springs, California property. Throughout his career, Schaefer has led the openings of multiple restaurants and served as a consultant or manager of existing restaurants to dramatically increase revenues. Over the years, his successes have been reviewed in over 20 publications, including Los Angeles Times, Wine Spectator, LA Weekly and Los Angeles Magazine.

Schaefer received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from University of California, Los Angeles.  He also graduated from the California School of Culinary Arts in Pasadena, California in the Le Cordon Bleu program where he earned the highest honors.

Harless will oversee Grand Geneva Resort & Spa and Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

In his new role, Harless will oversee the AAA Four Diamond Grand Geneva Resort & Spa and Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark, both in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. He previously served as general manager of the Skirvin Hilton Hotel in Oklahoma City.

Harless joined Marcus Hotels & Resorts in 2014 as resident manager of Grand Geneva Resort & Spa. He was quickly promoted that same year to general manager at Hilton Madison Monona Terrace in Madison, Wisconsin. In 2020, Harless was again promoted to his most recent role as general manager of the Skirvin Hilton Hotel. Prior to his tenure at Marcus Hotels & Resorts, Harless worked with Hyatt Hotels Corporation, serving in various management roles for both the corporate team and specific properties that ranged from convention hotels to destination resorts.

Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a nationally recognized owner and management company and division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced that it has formed a joint venture with funds managed by Searchlight Capital Partners, a leading global private investment firm, to co-invest in lifestyle hotels, resorts and high-quality full-service properties. Through this joint venture, Marcus Hotels & Resorts and Searchlight Capital Partners announced the acquisition of the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh, which Marcus Hotels & Resorts will manage, effective December 16, 2021. The hotel will remain within the Kimpton brand. 

“We are excited to begin our partnership with Searchlight Capital Partners with the acquisition of the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh,” said Michael Evans, president of Marcus Hotels & Resorts. “As we seek more opportunities to co-invest in and manage leading properties across the nation, our partnership with Searchlight Capital Partners will allow us to strategically expand our co-owned portfolio of market leading resorts and hotels.” 

The terms of the joint venture were not disclosed.

Marcus Hotels & Resorts Announces General Manager Appointments at its El Paso Properties

Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a nationally recognized owner and management company and division of The Marcus Corporation, today announced Lynn Dornau was promoted to general manager of the DoubleTree El Paso Downtown. The company also announced the appointment of Victor Delgado as general manager of the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown/Convention Center in El Paso, Texas.

Dornau comes to the DoubleTree El Paso Downtown hotel after serving as general manager of Marcus Hotels & Resorts’ other managed property in the market, the Courtyard by Marriott El Paso Downtown/Convention Center. She served in this position since 2018 when the hotel first opened. In her new role, Dornau will oversee operations of the 200-room property that features 8,500 square feet of meeting space, multiple dining experiences and a rooftop pool and sun deck with stunning views of the El Paso skyline.

Dornau has over 15 years of hospitality experience in the El Paso market and was a member of the DoubleTree El Paso Downtown’s executive team when Marcus Hotels & Resorts acquired the management contract in April 2018.

Delgado joins the Courtyard by Marriott El Paso Downtown/Convention Center as general manager where he will manage the 145-room, nine story property in the heart of downtown El Paso. He most recently served as corporate director of operations at Sun Capital Hotels, a hotel development and management company for select service and extended stay hotels. In this role, Delgado led operations of nine hotels throughout New Mexico working directly with general managers to ensure guest satisfaction while focusing on revenue management, operational efficiencies and talent development.

Delgado brings nearly 30 years of hospitality and hotel management experience as his career includes key leadership positions at hotels throughout the Southwest and Pacific U.S. Earlier in his career, he worked for The Marcus Corporation as part of the Baymont Inns & Suites division where he initially led the Baymont El Paso East Hotel as general manager before being promoted to district director. Delgado received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice from El Paso Community College.

Marcus Hotels & Resorts Appoints Carlo Vermeeren to General Manager of the Omaha Marriott Downtown at the Capitol District

Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a nationally recognized owner and management company and division of The Marcus Corporation, today announced the appointment of Carlo Vermeeren as general manager of the Omaha Marriott Downtown at the Capitol District in Omaha, Nebraska. In his new role, Vermeeren will oversee operations of the 12-story, 333-room hotel that serves as the anchor of the Capitol District, the city’s dining and entertainment district.

In this role, he managed the hotel’s multi-million-dollar renovations while leading the team to achieve quality service levels. Vermeeren has also held other roles at luxury brands, including serving as global director of guest experiences luxury and lifestyle brands at Hilton Worldwide where he was responsible for the Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts and Canopy brands. Earlier in his career, Vermeeren served as executive rooms director and interim general manager of the Hilton Milwaukee City Center in Milwaukee, one of Marcus Hotels & Resorts’ premier properties.
