Marissa Raglin Artist in Residence at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel
Marissa Raglin

The Skirvin Hilton Hotel is pleased to announce Marissa Raglin as its sixth artist-in-residence. Raglin, an accomplished visual artist, will work from the historic hotel’s studio space for one year to showcase her artistic talents.

In its sixth year, the Skirvin Paseo Artist Creativity Exposition, or S.P.A.C.E., is a unique urban artist-in-residency program in which emerging visual artists who are members of the Paseo Arts Association can apply for a yearlong on-site residency in Oklahoma City’s premier downtown landmark hotel.
The Skirvin’s selection committee, consisting of leaders in the local art community from the Paseo Art Association and representatives of The Skirvin Hilton Hotel, selected Raglin from a distinguished pool of artists.

Currently working in analog collage and resin, Raglin creates ethereal, whimsical collage works. She can be found knee-deep in vintage illustration books and magazines plucked from thrift stores and half-priced book shops. Raglin earned her bachelor’s degree in studio art from Oklahoma Baptist University in 2012. In 2014, she picked up an X-ACTO knife and began working to create collage works on paper. Raglin is a 2015 Artist Inc. Live OKC Fellow and works as the director of museum experience at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame and Gaylord-Pickens Museum.

During her residency program at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel, Raglin will create a new body of collage work. She also encourages guests of all ages to stop by the studio to make their very own postcard using vintage imagery. Once the work is created, Raglin will photograph all works and upload images to her website. Guests can follow along at www.cutpasteok.com.

“We are thrilled to welcome Marissa as our new artist in residence,” said Gerald Rappaport, general manager of The Skirvin Hilton Hotel. “From abstract mosaics, violin making, poetry and encaustics, to paintings and illustrations, it’s exciting to see our program continue to evolve and bring such creative and ambitious talent to the Skirvin and downtown Oklahoma City. I am confident both our hotel guests and area residents will enjoy this unique and personal artist-in-residence experience.”

The Skirvin Hilton Hotel is majority-owned and operated by Marcus Hotels & Resorts, in partnership with Skirvin Partners in Development.

Mason Street Grill, part of the Marcus® Restaurants Group, today announced new fall specials, including the country fried quail dinner for two, boozy coffee and tea drinks and the new Chef’s Counter menu inspired by the film, Fantastic Mr. Fox. In addition to these specials, Mason Street Grill announced upcoming dates for its popular Chef’s Cooking Series featuring executive chef, Kenneth Hardiman, which runs monthly.

“While we offer unique specials every season, I’m especially looking forward to this fall. The country fried quail dinner for two touches on my love for southern cooking, and our team has had a great opportunity to flex their creativity with seasonal produce while developing the dishes for our specialty menus,” said Chef Hardiman.

Country Fried Quail Dinner at Mason Street Grill

A Twist on the Traditional: Country Fried Quail Dinner for Two
Fall brings the ideal time for a twist on the traditional. At Mason Street Grill, the culinary team has shaken up the traditional fried chicken and gravy dinner with a fried quail dinner for two. The fried quail dinner special features two quail birds fried in homemade breading along with:

• Hand-crafted buttermilk drop biscuits and apple butter;
• Pickled vegetables; and,
• A trio of sides, including house-made mac and cheese, braised greens with bacon and sweet potatoes.

“Chef’s Series” September 23 with Chef Hardiman – Learn the Art of the Making Homemade Ricotta Cheese and Tomato Soup
Mason Street Grill is more than a place to dine. As downtown Milwaukee’s quintessential neighborhood restaurant, Mason Street Grill has also started a series of education courses for the community focusing on food and cocktails. Two recent “Tricks of the Mix” events brought a master mixologist to the restaurant to help guests learn how to make barrel-aged cocktails, such as Mason Street Grill’s barrel-aged Old Fashioned, at home.

This fall, guests will have the chance to learn cooking basics hands-on with Chef Kenneth Hardiman. The monthly “Chef’s Series” events, planned by Chef Hardiman, reflects his personal style of high-end, quality comfort food.

During the next event, Sept. 23, guests will learn how to make their own ricotta cheese. After making the cheese, attendees will then turn their creations into a delicious spinach and ricotta grilled cheese. Chef Hardiman will also offer ways to use up the last of this season’s tomatoes, such as making homemade tomato basil soup, which guests will learn to create.

“Cooking is meant to be approachable and comforting. However, many people are intimidated by the process. During the Chef’s Series, I will teach guests basic techniques that will help them transform quality seasonal ingredients into exceptional home-cooked meals,” said Hardiman.

Upcoming Chef’s Series events are:

• September 23 – ‘Comfort, Cozy and (Ricotta) Cheese’ – Guests will learn to make house-made ricotta, tomato basil soup and spinach & ricotta grilled cheese
• October 21 – ‘Brunch Cookery’ – Guests will learn to make poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, drop biscuits and sausage gravy
• November 11 – ‘Autumn Sweets & Spices’ – Guests will learn to make apple and butternut squash soup, maple- and bacon-roasted Brussel sprouts and cinnamon sugar beignets

The Chef’s Series events cost $29 per guest, or $49 for a couple and run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. More information can be found on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/MasonStreetGrill/.

Fantastic Mr. Fox Takes Over the Mason Street Grill Chef’s Counter
What’s better than a movie? A movie about food. Even better than that? A meal based on the food from a movie. Mason Street Grill continues its popular Chef’s Counter concept, called “Dinner from a Movie” this fall with a menu inspired by the visually intoxicating Fantastic Mr. Fox. The new menu, which launches Oct. 18, will feature:

• Amuse bouche of roasted tomato jam, white anchovy and crostini

• Nutmeg and ginger spiced crème brûlée with salted pepita tuile ($8)

Every eight weeks, Mason Street Grill will highlight the foods or culinary themes from a different iconic film. Currently, Mason Street Grill features dishes inspired by Fried Green Tomatoes. More information about the Chef’s Counter is found at http://www.masonstreetgrill.com/specials-and-events/chefs-counter.

SafeHouse Milwaukee Mission Impossible Burger

SafeHouse Milwaukee’s Mission Impossible Burger

National Burger Day is September 18, but Control has put into effect the “Burger Master” operation all month long. The mission is simple: visit the SafeHouse multiple times in September and eat four of SafeHouse’s top-ranked burgers. The reward for completing the mission is a free burger in October — plus a chance to win a free night stay at Milwaukee’s historic Pfister Hotel.

In addition, SafeHouse will be extending its popular August special, “Feed your Family for $50,” into the Fall. This mission is available to families every Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at SafeHouse Milwaukee and offers a chance for agent families to save big.

Operation “Burger Master” Mission Details
Every week in September, the SafeHouse will feature one of its top-secret burgers on social media. Agents who purchase that burger will receive a point towards completing their mission of getting all four burgers throughout the month. The featured burgers are:

• Week 1 (9/3 – 9/9): The Provocateur
• Week 2 (9/10 – 9/16): Spy Burger
• Week 3 (9/17 – 9/23): Double Agent
• Week 4 (9/24 – 9/30): M.O.A.B. Burger

*Note: The Smersh Burger can be substituted for any of the above to make it vegetarian-friendly. In other words, vegetarian agents who buy four Smersh Burgers in September will get a free burger in October.

Once agents complete the mission, they also will be entered into a drawing for a free night stay at AAA-Four Diamond Pfister Hotel.

Feed Your Family for $50 – Intel Here…
Every Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. at SafeHouse Milwaukee, families of four can enjoy a mission and a meal for only $50. The mission includes:

• Choice of appetizer – either cheese curds, Stasi twists or nachos;
• Choice of burger, chicken breast sandwich, Smersh burger, or kid’s meal (for each adult and child); and,
• Non-alcoholic beverages, such as soft drinks, lemonade or iced tea (bottles of root beer not included).

Families with more than four agents are also welcome! For families bigger than four, each additional meal is charged at regular menu price.

Top-secret information about SafeHouse Restaurant and Bar is available at http://www.safe-house.com/. Spies clued into the SafeHouse social media channels (Facebook, Twitter @SafeHouseMKE, Instagram @safehousemke and SnapChat) in September will receive clandestine (and exclusive) intel about these dangerously delicious missions.

Hilton Milwaukee City Center’s Beloved Canine Concierge, Millie, Turns 1!

Millie at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center

The Hilton Milwaukee City Center celebrates a very special birthday this September! Millie, a mini Goldendoodle who serves as the hotel’s “canine concierge,” and who has warmed the hearts of many locals and travelers, is turning one Wednesday, September 13. The public is invited to help celebrate Millie’s birthday from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in 6th and Green, the hotel’s outside courtyard.

Millie, who is named using the first and last syllables of Milwaukee, works alongside her owner and the Hilton Milwaukee’s “human” concierge, Rusty Dahler, Tuesday through Saturday. She spends 40 hours a week working at the hotel – welcoming guests and providing cuddles to employees and visitors in the lobby, riding on luggage carts and assisting with deliveries, and visiting business and meeting attendees during conference breaks held at the hotel. Since arriving at the hotel, Millie has become a mini celebrity in Milwaukee, also participating in city parades and special events held at the hotel. She’s even known nationwide, having been mentioned by Hilton Hotels CEO Chris Nassetta on his personal Facebook page, mentioned on Buzzfeed’s Reasons to Smile Facebook page and the Weather Channel’s Crazimals page. Flight attendants from a national airline are also known to request stops to Milwaukee just to see Millie!

Millie’s First Birthday Party, Sept. 13
During Millie’s First Birthday Party on September 13 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., the Hilton Milwaukee City Center will feature:

• Cash bar, light snacks and birthday cake
• Samples and information from dog-friendly companies, including Central Bark, Fromm Family Pet Food, Cold Nose Canine and The Lovin’ Oven Pet Bakery
• Agility and frisbee demonstrations, starting at 6:00 p.m.
• Holly Lewis, Millie’s trainer, will be on hand to answer dog-related questions

The event, at the Hilton Milwaukee’s 6th and Green, is free and open to the public, including well-mannered and leashed dogs. Instead of gifts for Millie, please consider bringing a toy to donate to the Wisconsin Humane Society. In the event of rain, the festivities will need to be moved inside for a people-only party (dogs will not be allowed).

“Millie has changed the atmosphere of the hotel’s lobby tremendously. When guests check-in or walk into the lobby, the first thing they often see is Millie, and she instantly brings a smile to their faces. She makes guests feel at home,” said Dahler. “At the Hilton Milwaukee City Center, we want to provide an exceptional and unforgettable experience. Millie certainly offers an experience unlike any other for residents and guests alike.”

The AAA-Four Diamond Hilton Milwaukee City Center, one of Milwaukee’s premier pet-friendly hotels, chose to bring a canine concierge into the hotel in fall 2016. After determining the best breed – one that is hypoallergenic and has a calm temperament – the hotel, with help from Concierge Rusty Dahler, found Millie and brought her to the hotel in late November 2016.

WELL Spa + Salon Offers Brides Beauty Tips to Look Their Best as They Walk Down the Aisle

Leading Milwaukee spa in the Pfister Hotel offers 10 beauty tips so brides can glow on their special day

Milwaukee, Wis., August 24, 2017. . . . . Planning a wedding involves managing the guest list, venue, décor details and buying the perfect dress, but many brides forget to pamper themselves before the big day. In addition to finding the perfect gown, brides need glowing skin and romantic hairstyles to look their best. WELL Spa + Salon, a luxury day spa and world-class salon located at the AAA Four-Diamond Pfister Hotel, offers beauty tips so brides can walk down the aisle in bridal radiance.

10 Beauty Tips from WELL Spa + Salon to Look Radiant on Your Special Day:

1. Your skin is important. It will be visible in your wedding photos for the rest of your life. Treat your skin with a facial to ensure it has the proper moisture it needs to look its best. Be sure to try the facial 30 days before your wedding to see how your skin will react, then do the facial again 10 days before you walk down the aisle. At WELL Spa + Salon we recommend our number one treatment for brides, the signature Vie Anti-Aging Facial to make your skin look its best.
2. Moisturize twice a day, in the morning and at night to help make your skin look gorgeous. While you sleep, your skin repairs itself so it is important for you to cleanse at night to remove the pollution and stress from the day and bring the moisture back to your skin.
3. Gently exfoliate your skin once a week. WELL Spa + Salon recommends using Phytomer’s Vegetal, a gentle facial exfoliant twice a week to remove dry dead skin from the epidermis, leaving skin smooth and renewed.
4.Drink plenty of water for glowing skin. Hydrating is essential to maintaining proper moisture and nutrients to skin cells. Water flushes toxins out, enhancing your complexion and leaving you with soft healthy-looking skin.
5. Don’t forget about the rest of your skin. Exfoliate and moisturize your body before your wedding. Be sure you focus on dry, patchy areas, like your elbows, knees and heels as dirt is attracted to dry skin and can appear darker in your wedding photos. WELL Spa + Salon offers an aroma glow body scrub to soften and polish your skin to look its best on your wedding day.
6. Use self-tanner to add that extra glow. It is best to test a self-tanner before your wedding to make sure it doesn’t rub off on your dress and it applies evenly. We recommend our Body Bronzing treatment leaving you sun-kissed and beautifully bronzed.
7. Choose a wedding day hairstyle that makes you feel comfortable. With so many beautiful options, it’s important to have a trial with your stylist before your wedding. The trial will ensure the style you want matches your face shape and gives you the look you want on your special day. It’s also important to do a makeup trial to guarantee your makeup is what you dreamed of as you walk down the aisle.
8. Try the newest wedding day hair trend – organic chic. This polished, yet messy look incorporates braids, twists and flowers for a whimsical look. Some brides will even have a loose updo during the ceremony and pull it down for the reception. This will give your hair body and look stunning throughout the entire day.
9. Get the celebrity treatment with airbrushed makeup. With high-definition cameras showing every small flaw or discoloration, many brides are turning to airbrush makeup. Airbrush makeup will fill all your pores to create a clean look compared to foundation that simply covers your skin. It also lasts well into the night!
10. Complete your look with flawless makeup. Before your makeup consultation, decide the look you are going for. Do you want to look dramatic on the day of your wedding or do you want a more natural, soft look? Depending on what you decide, make sure your makeup doesn’t compete. For the dramatic look, choose dark eyes and light lips. For a more natural look, have light eyes and use a bold, red lipstick to create a look that pops. For a glamorous look, apply eyelashes in the corner of your eyes to open your eyes and look elegant. If you want to be able to touch up throughout the day and evening, most spas will have the products they used available for purchase.

“We know the stress brides feel as they plan their wedding day while also preparing to look their best,” said Elizabeth Walsh-Zimmermann, Director of WELL Spa + Salon at The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, Wis. “That’s why we offer brides moisturizing spa treatments, beautiful hairstyles and striking makeup to ensure that their special day is as perfect as they could have imagined it.”

About The Pfister Hotel
The Pfister Hotel has been the premier hotel in downtown Milwaukee for over 120 years. Originally built in 1893 by businessman Guido Pfister, it was the most lavish hotel of its time. The hotel’s storied elegance had faded following World War II, until 1962, when Ben Marcus, founder of The Marcus Corporation, purchased this grand hotel out of bankruptcy. The Marcus family renovated and restored the hotel to its original glory, adding convention facilities, a parking garage and 23-story guest tower. The Pfister Hotel remains home to the largest collection of Victorian art of any hotel in the world, and offers an interactive augmented reality tour of pieces in this impressive collection.
Today the Pfister Hotel continues its tradition of gracious service and impeccable style, and has been recognized for 41 consecutive years by AAA as a Four-Diamond property. In 2017, The Pfister Hotel was ranked the No. 1 Best Milwaukee Hotel by U.S. News & World Report. This exceptional property is a member of two prestigious hotel organizations, Historic Hotels of America and Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. The Pfister Hotel is located at 424 E.
