Gallery Night and Day at the InterContinental Milwaukee Hotel
Gallerie M inside the InterContinental Milwaukee will display the works of Phyllis Bankier, a local Cedarburg photographer. Earlier this year, the hotel commissioned Musolff to paint three additional associates. The paintings feature six familiar, longtime Pfister associates who have been with the company for over 25 years. In between sets, guests will enjoy desserts, a cash bar and live jazz from two of Inouye’s favorite musicians–Jamie Breiwick and Mark Davis. In addition, the evening will feature a special set of live tableaus inspired by some of the paintings, performed by local artist Blasted Ellipses and friends. About The Pfister Hotel

The Pfister Hotel has been the premier hotel in downtown Milwaukee for over 120 years. Originally built in 1893 by businessman Guido Pfister, it was the most lavish hotel of its time. The Pfister Hotel remains home to the largest collection of Victorian art of any hotel in the world, and offers an interactive augmented reality tour of pieces in this impressive collection.
Today the Pfister Hotel continues its tradition of gracious service and impeccable style, and has been recognized for 41 consecutive years by AAA as a Four-Diamond property. In 2017, The Pfister Hotel was ranked the No. 1 Best Milwaukee Hotel by U.S. News & World Report. This exceptional property is a member of two prestigious hotel organizations, Historic Hotels of America and Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. The Pfister Hotel is located at 424 E. The Pfister® Hotel Names Margaret Muza Next Artist-in-Residence

Ninth Artist-in-Residence Succeeds Pamela Anderson

Milwaukee, Wis., March 1, 2017 – The historic AAA Four-Diamond Pfister Hotel, owned and managed by Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, today announced Margaret Muza as its ninth resident artist. Muza, a Milwaukee-area tintype photographer, will begin working in the hotel’s lobby-level Artist’s Studio for one year beginning April 1, 2017, succeeding current Pfister artist and abstract expressionist painter, Pamela Anderson. For only the second time in the history of the Artist-in-Residence program, Muza was also selected as the winner of the public vote.

“I am thrilled to be chosen as The Pfister Hotel’s ninth Artist in Residence. I plan to transform the studio space into an authentic tintype studio where guests can witness this historic photography process that dates back to the Civil War era,” said Muza. “My love of history made me familiar with tintypes. The beauty of older portraits such as Abraham Lincoln, Fredrick Douglass and others moved me and I fell in love with the process. I am eager to begin interacting with hotel guests and teaching them the inner workings of tintype photography. As part of my work in the studio, I will be able to capture memorable moments as they happen and give guests their own unique tintype portrait only a few minutes after the picture is taken. I look forward to capturing the many faces of guests and associates and telling their story through my work.”

Tintype is a photograph made by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of metal coated with a dark lacquer or enamel and used as the support for the photograph emulsion. Tintype photography became popular during the 1860s, and was commonly made by photographers in booths at open fairs and carnivals, as well as by sidewalk photographers. As the ninth Artist in Residence, Muza will engage guests in the tintype process. Taking only about fifteen minutes from start to finish, Muza mixes a liquid “film” called collodion and pours it directly onto the metal plate which will then sensitize in silver nitrate making it light sensitive. The plate is then loaded onto the back of a large format view camera and exposed for anywhere between one and 15 seconds depending on a few variables. Finally, the plate is developed on site.
As part of her residency, Muza plans to create a book of the images she captures throughout her year as a Legacy Piece for the hotel.

“Margaret’s work truly encompasses what the Pfister hotel symbolizes – timeless elegance and tradition,” said Tim Smith, general manager of The Pfister Hotel. “Her tintype photography will document the daily activity and unique moments in time that will serve as memories for years to come. Her photography will also be a nice complement to our guests who find the history of our 120-year old hotel fascinating. We welcome Margaret to our Pfister family and look forward to seeing how her beautiful work will further enhance our personal guest experience.”

Muza was one of six finalists included in a four-week public voting period. In addition to the public vote via Facebook and in-person ballots, a selection committee, consisting of leaders in the local art community, made the final decision in choosing the next Artist in Residence. This year’s selection committee was comprised of representatives from the Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts, and past Pfister artists in residence.

The public vote winner typically receives the opportunity to display his/her work in a solo exhibit at Gallerie M, inside InterContinental Milwaukee, also owned and managed by Marcus Hotels & Resorts. Because Muza was also selected as the winner of the public vote, the public vote runner-up, Ariana Vaeth, a local Milwaukee painter, will receive the honor to showcase her pieces at Gallerie M this year. All finalists from this year and years past will be offered additional opportunities to show their work at future Pfister-sponsored events.

Evensong Spa Beer Services

Evensong Spa is once again offering craft beer spa specials in conjunction with Heidel House Resort’s 6th annual Brew Fest. Enjoy the rejuvenating benefits of Wisconsin’s most popular beverage throughout the month of March.

The U.S. has very few spas that offer the benefits of beer services, whose origins stem from the ancient Romans. Beer baths were used to sweat out toxins, exfoliate the skin and infuse vitamins into the body.

The Evensong Spa team has taken it upon itself to diligently research this under-served industry and craft its own beer spa services! Throughout the month of March, these Evensong Spa beer services will be featured:

Renew & Brew Bath Cure – $50: Start with a frothy beer bath, a potent brew of dark ale and mineral water to purify the skin. The beer bubbles perform a subtle massage, tingling as it touches your skin, and then warms and opens up skin pores allowing toxins to escape. The hops function as a purifying agent, exfoliating dry, dull skin. The active beer yeast provides the skin with a wide range of B vitamins, proteins and saccharides while contributing to overall softening and regeneration of the skin. To add to the relaxation experience, enjoy a pint of your favorite New Glarus brew while you soak your stress away!

Evensong Spa’s steam room or waterfall whirlpool soak is the perfect follow-up to this 20-minute treatment.

Hops & Honey Pedicure – $75: Enjoy a warm foot soak with a touch of beer while enjoying a cold one! The natural antibacterial effects clean and sanitize, while yeast enzymes in the beer soften and exfoliate dry skin and callouses, making skin feel absolutely renewed. Guests can sit back and sip a New Glarus beer while their feet and calves are massaged with a lime salt scrub, followed by a super hydrating citrus lotion. Finish with the spa’s divine honey-based moisture serum that seals in moisture and brings rich color back to tired feet.

For both beer-themed spa treatments, guests can choose from New Glarus Spotted Cow, Blacktop, Moon Man and Fat Squirrel.

Historic Skirvin Hilton Celebrates 10 Years as Oklahoma City’s #1 Hotel

Skirvin Hilton Hotel Oklahoma logo

The Skirvin Hilton, the #1 hotel in Oklahoma City, Okla., today announced it is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its reopening. In 2007, Marcus Hotels & Resorts and Skirvin Partners in Development completed a $55 million renovation and restoration of this historic landmark, returning the property to its former glory as the social center of Oklahoma City. Now, 10 years later, the Skirvin Hilton is currently ranked among the top five Hiltons in the Americas.

“We are delighted to celebrate the landmark 10th anniversary of the oldest existing hotel in the state of Oklahoma,” said Gerald Rappaport, general manager. “To celebrate this significant milestone with our guests, we will be offering fantastic anniversary specials throughout the month of February. We are honored to continue to be considered the city’s crown jewel and social epicenter and look forward to carrying on the Skirvin Hilton’s tradition as the premier hotel enjoyed by both residents and guests.”

The Skirvin Hilton’s anniversary celebration will include festivities including:

• Throughout the month of February, guests who stay two nights at the regular price can stay an additional night for only $10 by booking here.
• Park Avenue Grill will be serving $10 lunch specials, Monday through Friday – designed with the Skirvin’s storied past in mind. A percentage of proceeds from the lunch special will be donated directly to The CARE Center, a nonprofit organization that provides support to children and families.
• The Red Piano Lounge will offer a $10 signature martini throughout the month. Starting February 24, for an additional $10, guests can take home a Red Piano logo martini glass – with all profits going directly to The CARE Center.
• The celebration will culminate on Friday, February 24 from 12:00pm-6:00pm as the hotel invites all friends and neighbors for complimentary anniversary cake, punch and coffee inside the Skirvin Hilton hotel’s newly renovated lobby. Guests can enjoy a historical tour, walk the event space, or view newly renovated guest rooms as part of the most recent $4 million renovation.

The Skirvin Hilton has been the backdrop for many significant events, including weddings, galas and celebrations. The Skirvin Hilton is asking guests with a beloved Skirvin story or memory to share their stories. Ten favorite moments will then be chosen and published on the Skirvin Hilton’s website. The guests with the 10 selected stories will also be given a weekend stay to come back and enjoy the hotel in its prime. Guests can email their stories to SusanRiley@SkirvinHilton.com.

The Skirvin Hilton originally opened in 1911 and has been synonymous with elegance and innovation for the past five generations, hosting oil barons, dignitaries, movie stars, political leaders and presidents. Guests from around the globe have traveled through the downtown Skirvin Hilton to experience its unique sophistication and timelessness.
