Pink Rooms at the InterContinental Milwaukee

Just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the donation is a result of InterContinental Milwaukee’s two Pink Rooms – two special guest rooms designed to build awareness, raise funds, offer support and foster hope for those fighting breast cancer. Over the past seven years, a portion of the proceeds from each stay in the rooms has been donated to ABCD. Each year the contribution has increased, due to the growing interest in the cause and the program.

“InterContinental Milwaukee’s Pink Rooms have served as powerful symbols of hope and encouragement for both our associates and guests,” said Joseph Khairallah, president and chief operating officer of Marcus Hotels & Resorts. “We are proud to be active in supporting breast cancer survivorship and look forward to continuing our partnership with ABCD.”

“ABCD is grateful to be part of this creative program,” said Ginny Finn, executive director of ABCD. “The Pink Room project serves the dual purpose of raising the profile of ABCD’s services that are available 365 days a year, and raising funds to make sure all those who turn to us are served at no charge.”

The latest donation brings the total contribution to ABCD since the inception of the program to nearly $86,000. Since the Pink Rooms opened, more than 3,440 guests from 42 states and 12 different countries have stayed in the special guest rooms.

About The Pfister Hotel
The Pfister Hotel has been the premier hotel in downtown Milwaukee for over 120 years. Originally built in 1893 by businessman Guido Pfister, it was the most lavish hotel of its time. The hotel’s storied elegance had faded following World War II, until 1962, when Ben Marcus, founder of The Marcus Corporation, purchased this grand hotel out of bankruptcy. The Marcus family renovated and restored the hotel to its original glory, adding convention facilities, a parking garage and 23-story guest tower. The Pfister Hotel remains home to the largest collection of Victorian art of any hotel in the world, and recently unveiled an interactive augmented reality tour of pieces in this impressive collection. Today the Pfister Hotel continues its tradition of gracious service and impeccable style, and has been recognized for 39 consecutive years by AAA as a Four-Diamond property. The hotel is also an ongoing member of two prestigious organizations, Historic Hotels of America and Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. The Pfister Hotel is located at 424 E. Wisconsin Ave. in downtown Milwaukee. More information and updates on the hotel can be found on Facebook at www.facebook.com/thePfisterHotel and on Twitter (@PfisterHotel).

Find Your Favorite Color in Lake Geneva this Fall

Lake Geneva, WI (September 27, 2016) The state of Wisconsin Fall Color Report estimates the third week of October will be peak time for finding your favorite color in Lake Geneva. Whether you choose to time your fall getaway for peak time or anytime now through November, the Lake Geneva area is bursting with seasonal events and activities for all ages and interests. Here are some tips to get the most out of your fall getaway to Lake Geneva.

Hit the Road

Find your favorite fall colors by taking a ride on the three Wisconsin Rustic Roads (R-11, R-12 and R-36 totaling nearly 20 miles of scenic fall driving) that access the Lyons State Wildlife Area just northeast of Lake Geneva. These quiet country roads traverse glacial Kettle Moraine topography passing through large wooded areas of oak, maple and hickory, as well as old cranberry bogs and the tiny community of Lyons with its several quaint churches. The Rustic Roads, easily accessed via Sheridan Springs Road and Spring Valley Road, are perfect for scooter rentals and tours offered by Scoot Jockeys.

Get on the Water

Enjoy the beauty of the fall colors aboard one of the Lake Geneva Cruise Line boats. The Cruise Line offers a variety of bay and lake cruises with views of the magnificent estates that ring the lake and the season’s backdrop of vibrant colors. Or paddle while you take in the fall colors with a canoe or kayak rental offered by Clearwater Outdoor and Fontana Paddle Company.

Hike or Bike

Take in the colors by hiking a piece of the 21-mile Geneva Lake Shore Path for close up views of the multi-million dollar estates with beautiful landscaping built by wealthy Chicagoans after the Great Chicago Fire. For a more rustic hike, head to the Duck Lake Nature Area trail that follows the southern side of Lake Como between Lake Geneva and Como, Wisconsin. Scenery abounds along the former rail bed restricted to hikers only.

Mountain bikers head to the Adventure Center at The Mountain Top at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa or Lake Geneva Canopy Tours. Both locations offer about 9 miles of trails ranging from beginner to expert.

Zipline or Golf

Get adventurous and see the colors as you soar through the trees with Lake Geneva Canopy Tours ziplining. Canopy Tours offers eight different ziplines, five sky bridges, three spiral stairways and a one-of-a-kind “floating” double helix stairway which wraps around a breathtaking ash tree. The 1,200-foot dual racing zipline is the grand finale.

With 11 courses ranging from championship to par-3 level experiences, golf is another option for seeing the fall colors in Lake Geneva. Geneva National Resort offers three courses, each designed by masters Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Lee Trevino. Carved out of the rolling countryside, Geneva National’s golf courses take full advantage of the natural surroundings. Majestic Oaks at Lake Lawn Resort is a championship golf course among 275 tree-lined acres and the 27-hole course at Evergreen Country Club is recognized as an outstanding value.
