Pfister Annual Tree Lighting Event
Friday, November 25, 2016 | 5 PM – 6:30 PM
One of Milwaukee’s most celebrated traditions, The Pfister Hotel kicks off the holiday season with its annual tree lighting ceremony on Friday, November 25, 2016. A magical experience for the whole family, the event includes complimentary holiday treats, music, hot cocoa, eggnog and bubbly. Parents are invited to bring their cameras, as Santa and Mrs. Claus will be arriving at 5:20 p.m. on a Milwaukee Fire Department fire truck to greet guests and pose for photos. Guests will be encouraged to write letters to Santa and drop them in Santa’s special mailbox, which he will take back with him to the North Pole. Children can also take part in decorating a giant-sized gingerbread hotel. While the actual tree lighting ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m., the other activities will extend to 6:30 p.m. To support those in need during the holiday season, The Pfister Hotel will be collecting food for Hunger Task Force and encourages guests to bring non-perishable food items.

The Pfister® Hotel Hosts First-Ever Stomach Cancer Awareness Month® Art Exhibit & Silent Auction

Milwaukee, Wis., November 2, 2016 – The Pfister® Hotel, owned and managed by Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, is partnering with No Stomach For Cancer, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to support research and unite the caring power of people worldwide affected by stomach cancer. The partnership brings an inaugural pop-up art gallery to The Pfister Hotel from November 1, 2016 through November 29, 2016 with a silent auction and reception on November 12, 2016 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“We excited to host the first professionally curated and organized art exhibit for stomach cancer awareness and fundraising,” said Tim Smith, general manager of The Pfister Hotel. “Through The Pfister’s famous art gallery, we hope to raise awareness of stomach cancer and fundraise for a cure.”

Curated by Pamela Anderson, The Pfister’s artist-in-residence, Jill Coklan, visitor experience ambassador at Whitney Museum of American Art, and curator, and Lisa Goesling, art director at No Stomach For Cancer, the Pfister Pop-Up gallery will feature artwork from over 25 renowned artists for this inaugural event. Guests will be able to bid on the pieces at the November 12 reception. The majority of the proceeds will go to No Stomach For Cancer in support of their mission.

Capitol ChopHouse Appoints Sean Pharr as Executive Chef

In his new position, Pharr will oversee all culinary operations of the restaurant and ensure that guests receive the highest standards in service and a unique dining experience.

In 2005, Pharr moved to Chicago, Ill., accepting a position at TRU, before moving to Blue Water Grill as sous chef. In 2009, Pharr was sought out to become sous chef at Osteria Via Stato. Pharr later joined the Park Hyatt in Chicago for the re-launch of NoMI Kitchen as the chef de cuisine. In 2014, he accepted a position with B. Hospitality Co. working at Balena in Chicago and assisted with the opening team at Formento’s. After helping with the launch, Pharr moved to B. Just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the donation is a result of InterContinental Milwaukee’s two Pink Rooms – two special guest rooms designed to build awareness, raise funds, offer support and foster hope for those fighting breast cancer. Over the past seven years, a portion of the proceeds from each stay in the rooms has been donated to ABCD. Each year the contribution has increased, due to the growing interest in the cause and the program.

“InterContinental Milwaukee’s Pink Rooms have served as powerful symbols of hope and encouragement for both our associates and guests,” said Joseph Khairallah, president and chief operating officer of Marcus Hotels & Resorts. “We are proud to be active in supporting breast cancer survivorship and look forward to continuing our partnership with ABCD.”

The latest donation brings the total contribution to ABCD since the inception of the program to nearly $86,000. Since the Pink Rooms opened, more than 3,440 guests from 42 states and 12 different countries have stayed in the special guest rooms.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (October 6, 2016)The Skirvin Hilton Hotel is pleased to announce Mike Wimmer as its fifth artist-in-residence. Wimmer, an accomplished illustrator and painter from Oklahoma, will work from the historic hotel’s studio space for one year to showcase his artistic talents.

Born and raised in Muskogee, Okla., Wimmer earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1983 and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Hartford University in Hartford, Conn. in 2009, where his emphasis was illustration.

Wimmer’s artistic work has its own acclaim. From the cover art for Disney’s Lion King Soundtrack and telephone book covers, to full-color, full-page advertisements for some of America’s largest corporations including RJR Nabisco, Procter and Gamble’s Mr. Clean, Huggies Diapers and packaging for Celestial Seasons tea box covers, his work can be seen everywhere. He is best known for his children’s illustrations, which grace the covers of more than 200 books and fill the pages of almost a dozen more. Wimmer has over 40 paintings depicting historic subjects in the Oklahoma State Capitol.

Wimmer currently serves as the Distinguished Visiting Artist and Gallery Director for the Oklahoma City University School of Visual Arts, where he develops young minds using his life goal and personal motto – “Learn it, live it, teach it.” He serves on the board of the Oklahoma Art in Public Spaces Oversight Committee and the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature Museum in Abilene, Texas among others.

The Skirvin’s selection committee, consisting of leaders in the local art community, the Paseo Art Association and The Skirvin Hilton Hotel, selected Wimmer from a distinguished pool of artists.
