The Pfister Hotel Names Dominic Inouye Next Narrator in Residence

Dominic Inouye

Dominic Inouye

Milwaukee, Wis., April 22, 2016 – The historic Pfister® Hotel in downtown Milwaukee, which is owned and operated by Marcus Hotels & Resorts, has named Dominic Inouye its next “Pfister Narrator.” In this role, he will spend time in the hotel’s lobby and public spaces interacting with visitors and guests and sharing their stories on The Pfister’s award-winning blog (blog.thepfisterhotel.com). As narrator, Inouye will be posting blog entries at least twice each week over the course of a year and has plans to create monologues from guest conversations, monthly Pfister flipbooks as well as to hold writing workshops for guests and the public.

“I am thrilled to start my journey as the next Pfister Narrator. I want the Narrator to be more than a blog writer, but a creative celebrator voice of the people of Milwaukee, whether residents or visitors,” said Inouye. “My vision is for Pfister guests to become writers and the blog to become a conversation.”
A writer, speaker and teacher, Inouye has written for various websites, blogs and publications, founded academic programs, shared his experiences at academic conferences and taught students how to read and tell stories through history, art, spoken-word and film. He cofounded the Milwaukee Spotlight Student Film Festival and has over twenty years of experience as a teacher. He has taught at Marquette University, Pius XI High School and currently teaches English at The Prairie School in Windpoint, Wis.

Inouye was chosen to serve as the hotel’s ninth Pfister Narrator based on his writing style, his vision for the role and personality. He was selected from a large pool of applicants by a review panel consisting of local writers, editors and representatives from the hotel. He will be replacing Jonathan West, who has been writing for the hotel since May 2015. Inouye will begin his residency as narrator on April 22, 2016.

“We are eager for Dominic to join us at the Pfister,” said Tim Smith, general manager of The Pfister. “His friendly demeanor and creativity will be enjoyed by guests, the staff and the public.”

About The Pfister Hotel
The Pfister Hotel has been the premier hotel in downtown Milwaukee for over 120 years. Originally built in 1893 by businessman Guido Pfister, it was the most lavish hotel of its time. The hotel’s storied elegance had faded following World War II, until 1962, when Ben Marcus, founder of The Marcus Corporation, purchased this grand hotel out of bankruptcy. The Marcus family renovated and restored the hotel to its original glory, adding convention facilities, a parking garage and 23-story guest tower. The Pfister Hotel remains home to the largest collection of Victorian art of any hotel in the world, and recently unveiled an interactive augmented reality tour of pieces in this impressive collection.

Today the Pfister Hotel continues its tradition of gracious service and impeccable style, and has been recognized for 39 consecutive years by AAA as a Four-Diamond property. The hotel is also an ongoing member of two prestigious organizations, Historic Hotels of America and Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. The Pfister Hotel is located at 424 E. Wisconsin Ave. in downtown Milwaukee. More information and updates on the hotel can be found on Facebook at www.facebook.com/thePfisterHotel and on Twitter (@PfisterHotel).

MARCUS® HOTELS & RESORTS TO HOST APRIL GALLERY NIGHT EXHIBITS

The Pfister Hotel will introduce newly named Artist-in-Residence Pamela Anderson, while InterContinental Milwaukee’s Gallerie M will host The Zodiac Series

MILWAUKEE – APR. 13, 2016The Pfister® Hotel and InterContinental® Milwaukee, both owned and managed by Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, will host exhibits as part of the Historic Third Ward’s Gallery Night on Friday, April 15 from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. A reception at The Pfister Hotel will follow in the Rouge Ballroom from 9:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. to welcome new Artist-in-Residence, Pamela Anderson, and will include special guests from The Florentine Opera.

The Pfister Hotel
At The Pfister Hotel guests will be able to meet the hotel’s 8th Artist-in-Residence, Pamela Anderson, and get a first peak at her new work inside the studio gallery. Anderson, an abstract expressionist painter, will talk about the two series she will be producing this coming year: “Gilded,” 8-10 pieces based on the gilded structures, furniture and Victorian pieces located in The Pfister Hotel, and “Architecture,” 8-10 pieces based on the hotel’s architecture.

During a post-Gallery Night reception from 9:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m., The Florentine Opera Studio Artists will perform a medley of songs at Anderson’s debut celebration while she paints live, interacting with their music in the Rouge Ballroom. Music by DJ Solo will follow the Florentine Opera performance with a dance party and celebration of Pamela from 10:00 – 11:30 p.m. Complementary snacks and a cash bar will be available for guests partaking in the celebration.

The Florentine Opera will perform the following selections:
• Wochenend und Sonneschein (Happy Days Are Here Again), Dt. text: Charles Amberg,
music: Milton Ager – the Ensemble
• The Merry Widow Waltz, The Merry Widow (Die lustige Witwe) (1905), Franz Lehár
– Ariana & Tom
• Au fond du temple saint, Les pêcheurs de perles, Bizet – men
• But Not For Me (Girl Crazy – 1930)/If Love Were All (Bitter Sweet – 1929), Ira & George Gershwin; Noël Coward, adapted: Stewart – Ariana & Katherine
• Brussels (Bruxelles) (1962), Jacques Brel & Gerard Jouannes, arranged: Stewart
– The Ensemble
• (The Flower Duet) Sous le dôme épais, Lakme, Delibes – women
• Budapest (2013), words & music by George Barnett & Joel Pott, arranged by Mac Huff
– The Ensemble
• Edelweiss, The Sound of Music (1959), Rodgers & Hammerstein – The Ensemble

Anderson finds abstract qualities of aerial views inspirational and finds this subject matter meditative and calming. She works to paint a “familiar” landscape but so abstract that it becomes nonobjective. Her process utilizes large mops, tools and huge brushes to puddle, drip and scrape the surfaces of her work. Influenced by works by Viera de Silva and Richard Diebenkorn, she works in layers, underpainting with dark saturated paint and then adding and subtracting areas with opaque or semi-opaque colors to give her works depth and perspective. Her bold use of color and shapes are dramatic yet playful.

InterContinental Milwaukee Hotel
Gallerie M at InterContinental Milwaukee will be featuring The Zodiac series by local mixed media artist Renée Luna Bebeau. The series focuses on the human form in silhouette and was inspired by a childhood memory of having her silhouette traced. Every model who posed for the series is the actual zodiac sign that they portray in the finished piece. Bebeau chose specific postures for each to demonstrate a part of his or her personality, while leaving it open to the viewer for their own interpretation. Each piece will also feature an accompanying text collage by writer Valerie Valentine. Zodiac will be on display at Gallerie M from April 2 – May 1, 2016.

Renovations Completed at The Hilton Minneapolis/Bloomington Hotel

Hilton Minneapolis Bloomington Logo

Transformation includes lobby, Olive Bar & Lounge, Bloomington ChopHouse, meeting spaces and Executive Lounge

Lobby Stairs Resized

Minneapolis, Minn., April 5, 2016. . . . . The Hilton Minneapolis/Bloomington hotel, a leading hotel near the Mall of America managed by Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, today announced the completion of a $2 million renovation of the property. The remodeling introduces a fresh, sleek and contemporary design throughout the hotel and includes renovations of the lobby area and entrance, food and beverage outlets, meeting space and HHonors Executive Lounge.

“Guests will enjoy a complete transformation of the public areas, featuring new design elements and décor emphasizing contemporary silvers, grays and pearls as well as modern aesthetics. We believe this renovation will make the Hilton Minneapolis/Bloomington hotel one of the city’s most popular destinations for leisure and business travelers alike,” said Jim Waldvogel, general manager.

Guests will be welcomed by new décor and design elements as they first enter the lobby. A Starbucks Grab & Go was added so guests can enjoy traditional and seasonal Starbucks beverages daily, as well as fresh baked pastries, fresh fruit, granola parfaits and other refreshments.

Olive Bar & Lounge, featuring breakfast, small plates, classic entrees, salads and happy hour specials, was transformed into a contemporary space to work and play, featuring clean lines with modern sophistication. A 750-square foot bar serves as the focal point of the lounge, surrounded by booth and table seating. Three 60” flat screen TVs line the wall, perfect for enjoying sporting events or the latest happenings. A window divides the lounge from the lobby area, making it the ideal place to relax with friends, enjoy happy hour specials with a coworker or have a casual business meeting.

Voted Best Steakhouse by the Bloomington Sun Current five consecutive years, the award-winning Bloomington ChopHouse unveiled a new look to complement the restaurant’s reputation as one of Minneapolis’ premier steakhouse restaurants. Known as a traditional steakhouse featuring tender steaks, fresh seafood and attentive service, guests can still expect the same high-quality menu they are accustomed to, in a fresh, relaxing and enjoyable environment.

The hotel’s 5,040 square-foot American Ballroom was completely renovated with new carpeting, decor and contemporary chandeliers. Dramatic silver and bronze chandeliers accentuate the revitalized space, with a grey and natural palette that provides a more modern look to the meeting space. Foyer space includes new furniture with enhanced technology, including work desks with power and USB outlets.

HHonors and VIP travelers will be welcomed by a completely renovated Executive Lounge. Still serving a full American breakfast in the morning and an assortment of appetizers, small plates and premium beverages and cocktails in the evening, the remodeled lounge also includes new furnishings including a mix of relaxing lounge and task-oriented, communal seating. Added power and USB outlets were also added to provide guests with a relaxing, convenient VIP guest experience.

“We are excited to unveil the new renovations to our guests and the community as we maintain our position as one of Minneapolis’ premier hotels,” added Waldvogel.

WELL Spa + Salon Spring FarmHouse Fresh Specials
Both a favorite of Hollywood celebrities and Oprah-endorsed, these Farmhouse Fresh specials use 99.6% natural and naturally-derived products to deliver nourishment and relaxation to tired bodies. Seasonally-inspired treatments at Grand Geneva include:

  • Ultimate Avocado Fresher Body Treatment:  This crisp and mind-awakening treatment brings a renewed energy to your mood. We begin with a creamy nectar whole milk bath soak that softens skin as you relax. Next, grapefruit extracts envelop the air around you as a rice bran oil, sea salt, and ruby red grapefruit exfoliation begins to remove all your dull and tired skin. A cool, refreshing Guac Star mask is then applied. This rich avocado butter mask infuses skin with fatty acids, moisture-locking ingredients and skin feeding super antioxidants – green tea, goji fruit and pomegranate. Finally, an uplifting citrus-Shea butter leaves notes of sunshine to carry through your day. 80 minutes, $195 Monday – Friday, with a $10 increase on weekends
  • Strawberry Avocado Citrine – Vine to Divine Freshening Facial: This zippy fruit-filled facial will kick-start your complexion. It begins with a hydrating Green Tea Milk Wash cleanser and whipped shea-sugar exfoliation to remove dead skin cells. Next, a wholesome natural exfoliant smooths and refines skin. It is made with skin-clearing strawberry fruit extract, organic lavender buds, softening rice powder, and clarifying white mud. Then, a rich, cooling avocado mask calms and infuses skin with moisture and essential fatty acids. Prepare for a smorgasbord of nutrients, as Wine Down Serum brings antioxidant bliss to skin — hydrating, plumping and helping defend against free radical damage, followed by our peptide packed moisturizers. 50 minutes, $120 Monday – Friday, with a $10 increase on weekends
  • Darling Clementine Massage: Slip away and forget the day as you begin your massage with a calming scalp massage.
