Lobby Stairs Resized

Minneapolis, Minn., April 5, 2016. . . . . The Hilton Minneapolis/Bloomington hotel, a leading hotel near the Mall of America managed by Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, today announced the completion of a $2 million renovation of the property. The remodeling introduces a fresh, sleek and contemporary design throughout the hotel and includes renovations of the lobby area and entrance, food and beverage outlets, meeting space and HHonors Executive Lounge.

“Guests will enjoy a complete transformation of the public areas, featuring new design elements and décor emphasizing contemporary silvers, grays and pearls as well as modern aesthetics. We believe this renovation will make the Hilton Minneapolis/Bloomington hotel one of the city’s most popular destinations for leisure and business travelers alike,” said Jim Waldvogel, general manager.

Guests will be welcomed by new décor and design elements as they first enter the lobby. A Starbucks Grab & Go was added so guests can enjoy traditional and seasonal Starbucks beverages daily, as well as fresh baked pastries, fresh fruit, granola parfaits and other refreshments.

Olive Bar & Lounge, featuring breakfast, small plates, classic entrees, salads and happy hour specials, was transformed into a contemporary space to work and play, featuring clean lines with modern sophistication. A 750-square foot bar serves as the focal point of the lounge, surrounded by booth and table seating. Three 60” flat screen TVs line the wall, perfect for enjoying sporting events or the latest happenings. A window divides the lounge from the lobby area, making it the ideal place to relax with friends, enjoy happy hour specials with a coworker or have a casual business meeting.

Voted Best Steakhouse by the Bloomington Sun Current five consecutive years, the award-winning Bloomington ChopHouse unveiled a new look to complement the restaurant’s reputation as one of Minneapolis’ premier steakhouse restaurants. Known as a traditional steakhouse featuring tender steaks, fresh seafood and attentive service, guests can still expect the same high-quality menu they are accustomed to, in a fresh, relaxing and enjoyable environment.

The hotel’s 5,040 square-foot American Ballroom was completely renovated with new carpeting, decor and contemporary chandeliers. Dramatic silver and bronze chandeliers accentuate the revitalized space, with a grey and natural palette that provides a more modern look to the meeting space. Foyer space includes new furniture with enhanced technology, including work desks with power and USB outlets.

HHonors and VIP travelers will be welcomed by a completely renovated Executive Lounge. Still serving a full American breakfast in the morning and an assortment of appetizers, small plates and premium beverages and cocktails in the evening, the remodeled lounge also includes new furnishings including a mix of relaxing lounge and task-oriented, communal seating. Added power and USB outlets were also added to provide guests with a relaxing, convenient VIP guest experience.

“We are excited to unveil the new renovations to our guests and the community as we maintain our position as one of Minneapolis’ premier hotels,” added Waldvogel.

First Artist in Residence Selected for The Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln, Neb.

Cornhusker Logo

Lincoln, Neb., February 3, 2016. . . . . The Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel, majority owned and managed by Marcus Hotels & Resorts, today announced Margaret Berry as its first Artist-in- Residence. Berry will move into the new studio and gallery space on the main level of the hotel on April 1.

Margaret Berry, the first Cornhusker Artist in Residence, set to move in to the hotel's studio and gallery in April.

Margaret Berry, the first Cornhusker Artist in Residence, set to move in to the hotel’s studio and gallery in April.

Berry was one of six finalists for the program. A lifelong Nebraskan, she is a studio artist and teacher in Lincoln, specializing in encaustic painting and mixed media work. Actively involved in the Lincoln community, she previously served as executive director of the Lincoln Arts Council and was the first education director at the Lux Center.

Her artwork is part of a long painting tradition which melds beeswax, damar resin and pigment. Used by the Greeks, Romans and Egyptians, “encaustic” means to burn in with fire, and she uses a variety of torches to fuse wax layers of dreamy color and bold texture, sometimes incorporating oil paint, collage and photography into her work.

Her passion for encaustic has led her to exhibit coast-to-coast, teach innovative Hot Wax/Cool Art™ workshops across the U.S. and produce professional videos on YouTube.

Susan Madsen, general manager of The Cornhusker, states “Having Margaret Berry as our first Artist in Residence will be an exciting experience. She has so much energy and positivity, and her encaustic work is amazing! We’re enthusiastic to have her as part of The Cornhusker team, and look forward to her interaction with our hotel guests and staff.”

The hotel will host Berry on property in a gallery space open to the public for the Cornhusker Artist-in-Residence program. During her year of residency, Berry will spend 30 hours weekly in an on-site studio, creating pieces, hosting gallery nights and networking with guests to create a truly enriching experience for travelers.

A legacy piece will be created during her year of residency to permanently be on display within the hotel. This new, annual program will feature a new artist each year, accepting applications in the fall and beginning the new residency in April.

The Artist-in-Residence program was created by Marcus Hotels & Resorts in 2009 at The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, Wis. The program encourages the public and guests to interact with a local
artist, enriching the overall guest experience during their visit as they are able to connect with the artist and see the evolution of the pieces created.
