The Hilton Garden Inn Houston Northwest Introduces Charitable Artist ProgramHouston, Tex., October 21, 2013 – The Hilton Garden Inn Houston Northwest is pleased to announce award-winning artist and author Fran Padgett as its first inaugural Charitable Artist. Already underway, Padgett’s yearlong partnership with the hotel will benefit The Weathervane Foundation, a Texas non-profit corporation committed to supporting breast cancer patients and research. Padgett, a breast cancer survivor and one of Houston Woman Magazine’s “Fifty Most Influential Women,” serves as the foundation’s executive director and founder. The Hilton Garden Inn Houston Northwest is managed by Marcus Hotels & Resorts. The hotel is owned by Hilcom Partners, Ltd. Award-winning works previously displayed in both corporate and private collections are currently on display in the hotel’s board room – renamed the “Fran Padgett Board Room.” Through the Charitable Artist program, the hotel will donate a portion of all meeting and special event proceeds from the “Fran Padgett Board Room” to The Weathervane Foundation. At present, there are 22 artworks on display in both the board room and on the banquet corridor walls. “We are honored to have Fran’s beautiful pieces grace our walls on behalf of The Weathervane Foundation,” said Allan Hant, general manager of the Hilton Garden Inn Houston Northwest. “This program not only incorporates original works of art into our public spaces, but also supports a good cause – a real win-win. We look forward to working with Fran to spread her foundation’s mission to our hotel guests and the Houston community.” Added Hant, “We welcome and encourage the community to enjoy Fran’s works at any time.” Hant also shared that public exhibitions guided by Padgett are being planned for the near future. “On behalf of the board members and special advisors, I want to express our deep gratitude to Allan Hant and The Hilton Garden Inn Houston Northwest for this fantastic support of The Weathervane Foundation. The world of breast cancer has many facets – the disease, the causes, the research, the medical diagnosis and treatments, and the patients and survivors,” said Fran Padgett. She also shared, “In addition to recognizing genetic research at Baylor College, the funding from the program will help support Houston Northwest Medical Center’s ‘Care, Share and Be Aware’ breast cancer support group.” The hotel’s board room currently exhibits six pieces from Padgett’s “Shore to Shore” series, a patriotic collection featuring scenes from coast to coast. The board room also features one student work that won the Fran Padgett “Painterly Voice” award. On the walls of the banquet corridor, the hotel has displayed 16 selections from published and diverse works from series such as “Sunrise to Sunrise,” “Other Side of The Mountain,” “Gift of Time” and “Recovery.” A gifted and prolific painter and writer her entire life, Padgett was diagnosed in 2001 with cancer in both breasts. Since her diagnosis, Padgett’s art has transitioned from representational to abstract, deeply symbolic compositions, which often reveal unbidden imagery. Padgett founded The Weathervane Foundation in 2004 and has since gone on to publish two books. The first, Breast Cancer Recovery: No One Wrote a Manual was the winner of six literary awards in 2007, including the prestigious Benjamin Franklin Award in Health. Padgett’s latest book, Breast Cancer – No One Chose this Journey, is also an award winner. Skirvin Hilton Hotel Names Oklahoma City Violin Maker its Second Artist-in-ResidenceSKIRVIN HILTON HOTEL NAMES OKLAHOMA CITY VIOLIN MAKER ITS SECOND ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE
Arsenios Corbishley selected for the Skirvin Hilton’s Artist-in-Residence Program
OKLAHOMA CITY (August 31, 2013) —The Skirvin Hilton Hotel has named Oklahoma City native Arsenios Corbishley its next Artist-In-Residence. Beginning September10, Corbishley, a violin maker, will work from the historic hotel’s studio space on Broadway for one year, crafting his string instruments and hosting regular open-studio times. He is the second artist to qualify for the Skirvin’s Artist Residency. The Skirvin’s selection committee, in partnership with the Paseo Arts Association (www.thepaseo.com), identified Corbishley from a competitive pool of artists. “This iconic and beautiful hotel is an ideal backdrop for me to craft my instruments, and I am honored by the invitation to spend the year in this unique setting,” Corbishley said. “The space and location in the heart of downtown will allow me to share my art with the community, and exchange ideas with other artists and musicians through hosting regular acoustic concerts and open house sessions.” In addition to producing several other instruments, Corbishley plans to create a “Skirvin Quartet,” which will consist of two violins, a viola and a cello, each featuring characteristics inspired by his time at the Skirvin Hilton. Corbishley currently works from his home studio in Oklahoma City. (corbishleyviolins.com). He graduated from the Chicago School of Violin Making in 2012. An Oklahoma City native, Corbishley worked for several years learning his craft at Inter-City Violin Studios, a repair shop in the Paseo area. Corbishley’s fascination with string instruments began at the age of 10, when he first learned to play the cello. In addition to his violinmaking schooling, Corbishley attended the University of Oklahoma, earning undergraduate degrees in cello performance and political science. “We’re eager to welcome Arsenios Corbishley to the program,” Skirvin Hilton Hotel General Manager Martin van der Laan said. “We’re proud that our program, in its second year, has garnered the attention of such a unique talent, and we look forward to introducing our guests and the community to Arsenios and to the art of violin making.” Corbishley was one of five finalists voted on by the selection committee after initial applications by 21 artists. The committee consisted of leaders in the local art community, the Paseo Art Association and the Skirvin Hilton. “His skills, personality, and passion for his work impressed the committee,” van der Laan said. Corbishley will be the Skirvin Hilton’s second artist-in-residence, following artist Romy Owens. In its inaugural year, the program was awarded by Hilton Worldwide a Best Practice- Community Relations Award for the Skirvin Hilton. The Skirvin Hilton is majority-owned and operated by Marcus Hotels & Resorts, in partnership with Skirvin Partners in Development. Marcus Hotels & Resorts’ Artist-in-Residence Program originated at The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, Wis. in 2009 and has been expanded to the company’s Hotel Phillips in Kansas City, Mo. and the Skirvin Hilton. The program was developed to support the work of talented artists and to generate awareness of the arts community among guests and local residents alike. The Artist-in-Residence program has received local and national recognition as it continues to grow. MILWAUKEE RESTAURANT MANAGER TRAVELS TO TENNESSEE TO HAND-SELECT SINGLE BARREL JACK DANIEL’S WHISKEY FOR HARLEY-DAVIDSON 110TH ANNIVERSARYMarcus® Hotels & Resorts’ three Milwaukee properties, The Pfister® Hotel, InterContinental® Milwaukee, and Hilton Milwaukee City Center, today announced it will be serving and selling bottles of an exclusive Single Barrel Jack Daniel’s Whiskey at select food and beverage outlets during the Harley-Davidson 110th Anniversary celebrations. In June 2013, Ed Carrella, general manager of Mason Street Grill, traveled to the Jack Daniel’s Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee, on behalf of Milwaukee’s Marcus Hotels, to sample and hand-select a barrel of whiskey to be served during the anniversary. While sampling the single barrel whiskey—a premium class of whiskey in which each bottle comes from an individual aged barrel—he was looking for an overall well-balanced flavor. “We do not want the whiskey to overpower the guest’s palate,” explained Carrella. “But we also don’t want the whiskey to get lost in a drink. Bold, yet smooth is really what we were looking for—and we found it with the barrel we selected.” The chosen barrel was bottled and delivered last month and will be served at several Marcus Hotels outlets. Bottles are also available for purchase at any of the three Milwaukee hotels and dining outlets for $110 for the first bottle and $75 for a second bottle. Alternatively, at any of the hotels’ outlets, including Mason Street Grill, Lobby Lounge, Blu Bar & Lounge, Kil@wat, CLEAR Bar & Lounge, zenden, Miller Time Pub & Grill, and Monarch Lounge, guests can purchase commemorative bottles of the select Jack Daniel’s Whiskey for $150 to be kept behind the bar, so they can request a drink made with their own private reserve whenever they visit. Each of the three hotels are planning to host complimentary tastings of the exclusive Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Whiskey. Jack Daniel’s girls will pass samples at Miller Time Pub & Grill on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., CLEAR Bar & Lounge on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., and Mason Street Grill on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. For details on all of the anniversary celebration specials and events from Marcus Hotels & Resorts, visit www.mkepackages.com/jackdaniels.
