Marcus Restaurants to Donate 500 Cookies to Hope House, Names Cookie Contest Winner

Milwaukee, Wis., Dec. 19, 2012 Marcus Restaurants is baking up hope this holiday season. For the fourth year in a row, chefs from the organization are helping to make this holiday season a little sweeter for those in need. On Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at 10 a.m., Marcus chefs will drop off 500 cookies to Hope House in Milwaukee, an emergency and transitional living facility serving those in need of food and shelter.

Mary Lamb, this year’s winner of Milwaukee’s Favorite Cookie Contest, held by Marcus Restaurants, provided the recipe for the winning cookie – Dark Chocolate-Caramel Sea Salt Dreams cookies – that will be shared with residents and patrons of Hope House’s food pantry. For winning the contest, Lamb along with five of her closest friends, will receive a private baking lesson with Pfister Pastry Chef Jennifer Carlson, dinner for two and hotel stay at one of Marcus Hotels Milwaukee properties, plus a $150 Pick ’n Save gift card.

Milwaukee’s Favorite Cookie 2012 – Dark Chocolate-Caramel Sea Salt Dreams

Several Marcus Restaurant chefs reviewed the numerous cookie recipe entries and ultimately chose the Dark Chocolate-Caramel Sea Salt Dreams as their favorite. Chef Carlson says her favorite part of the contest is the chance to help others.

“We’re taking the time to bake and deliver these cookies once again this year because they’re going to an amazing organization,” she said. “Hope House is a true community supporter and we’re honored to play a small role in helping to make the season a little brighter for its guests.”

This is the second year Hope House has received the cookie donation.

“We are delighted to receive this wonderful donation again,” said Ken Schmidt, Executive Director of Hope House. “Our guests just loved the cookies last year. Even a gift so seemingly simple as cookies can make a big impact around the holidays.”

Marcus Restaurants would like to thank Roundy’s Supermarkets and ThirdCoast Digest for co-sponsoring the cookie donation.

Snow Fun for the Whole Family

The Mountain Top at Grand Geneva is staffed by a dedicated squad of over 70 ski instructors, with a select group that specializes in teaching children and beginning skiers. Led by Snow Sports Director Hans Hauschild, the ski team at The Mountain Top offers two ski programs created especially for kids:

  • Snow Cubs – This program, offered in January and February, is taught by professionally trained instructors in a group setting and is designed to introduce children 4 – 6 years of age to a snow experience.

  • Mountain Mites – This three-week program for children 6 – 14 years of age teaches ski skills under the supervision of professionally trained instructors, using a specialized teaching system.

In addition, the resort will once again be taking part in the nationwide “Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month” (LSSM), an initiative that encourages children and adults to take lessons from professional instructors and challenges current skiers and snowboarders to improve their skills with advanced classes. As part of the program, The Mountain Top will also be participating in LSSM’s “Bring a Friend Challenge.” There are two ways to participate:

  • Skiers or snowboarders can introduce a friend to a beginner lesson from a professional instructor.
  • Novice skiers or snowboarders can bring along a buddy to a beginner lesson from a professional instructor.

Participating guests will be entered in a contest for weekly prizes of snow gear and a grand prize ski vacation. For additional details, please call The Mountain Top team at 262.249.4726.
