TIMBER RIDGE LODGE & WATERPARK AND MARCUS HOTELS & RESORTS RECEIVE ORION ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP AWARD

Implementation of energy-reducing lighting system leads to reduction of carbon footprint

(LAKE GENEVA, WI; April 24, 2012)— Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark is proud to announce it is the recipient of the Environmental Stewardship Award from Orion Energy Systems. Through the use of Orion’s Compact Modular light system, the lodge was able to
successfully reduce the light-related electricity consumption in their Moose Mountain Falls water park by over 75%. Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark is managed by Marcus Hotels & Resorts.

Leslie Johnson, General Manager of Timber Ridge Lodge, accepted the award in February at a presentation celebrating this accomplishment. “We are honored to be recognized by Orion for our energy-saving efforts,” said Johnson. “Through the use of our newly -implemented lighting system, the lodge was able to reduce our carbon emission by 191 tons annually.” According to
estimates, this reduction is the annual air-scrubbing equivalent of planting 54 acres of trees, saving 24,328 gallons of gasoline, or removing 48 cars from the road.

Based on the Environmental Protection Agency’s projected 20-year lifespan of Orion’s fixtures, Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark anticipates decreasing their carbon dioxide emissions by 3,820 tons over the next two decades. During this time, Timber Ridge Lodge will prevent 14 tons of sulfur dioxide and 6 tons of nitrous oxide from being released into the atmosphere. Timber Ridge Lodge and Marcus Hotels & Resorts also expect to reduce their light-related energy costs from an annual $28,394 to just $6,793 a year.

The Environmental Stewardship Award strengthens the lodge’s reputation as one of Wisconsin’s most eco-conscious properties. As a member of Travel Green Wisconsin, a voluntary program that reviews, certifies and recognizes tourism businesses and organizations that have made a commitment to reducing their environmental impact, Timber Ridge has implemented the following green initiatives:

  • Facilitating airflow with fans in Moose Mountain Falls water park, reducing energy consumption 11-18%
  • Low flow showerheads and toilets
  • Implementation of an Energizer System that causes electrical appliances to run on an energy efficient mode when guests are not present in room
  • Preservation of protected wetlands on property, along with bird and wildlife sanctuaries

Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark is located on the campus of the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa in Lake Geneva, Wis.
