Marcus® Hotels & Resorts Forms Joint Venture with Searchlight Capital Partners to Grow Portfolio of Co-Owned Hotels

JV acquires Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburghwith Marcus Hotels & Resorts serving as manager 

Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a nationally recognized owner and management company and division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced that it has formed a joint venture with funds managed by Searchlight Capital Partners, a leading global private investment firm, to co-invest in lifestyle hotels, resorts and high-quality full-service properties. Through this joint venture, Marcus Hotels & Resorts and Searchlight Capital Partners announced the acquisition of the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh, which Marcus Hotels & Resorts will manage, effective December 16, 2021. The hotel will remain within the Kimpton brand. 

“We are excited to begin our partnership with Searchlight Capital Partners with the acquisition of the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh,” said Michael Evans, president of Marcus Hotels & Resorts. “As we seek more opportunities to co-invest in and manage leading properties across the nation, our partnership with Searchlight Capital Partners will allow us to strategically expand our co-owned portfolio of market leading resorts and hotels.” 

The terms of the joint venture were not disclosed.

Marcus Hotels & Resorts Announces General Manager Appointments at its El Paso Properties

Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a nationally recognized owner and management company and division of The Marcus Corporation, today announced Lynn Dornau was promoted to general manager of the DoubleTree El Paso Downtown. The company also announced the appointment of Victor Delgado as general manager of the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown/Convention Center in El Paso, Texas.

Dornau comes to the DoubleTree El Paso Downtown hotel after serving as general manager of Marcus Hotels & Resorts’ other managed property in the market, the Courtyard by Marriott El Paso Downtown/Convention Center. She served in this position since 2018 when the hotel first opened. In her new role, Dornau will oversee operations of the 200-room property that features 8,500 square feet of meeting space, multiple dining experiences and a rooftop pool and sun deck with stunning views of the El Paso skyline.

Dornau has over 15 years of hospitality experience in the El Paso market and was a member of the DoubleTree El Paso Downtown’s executive team when Marcus Hotels & Resorts acquired the management contract in April 2018.

Delgado joins the Courtyard by Marriott El Paso Downtown/Convention Center as general manager where he will manage the 145-room, nine story property in the heart of downtown El Paso. He most recently served as corporate director of operations at Sun Capital Hotels, a hotel development and management company for select service and extended stay hotels. In this role, Delgado led operations of nine hotels throughout New Mexico working directly with general managers to ensure guest satisfaction while focusing on revenue management, operational efficiencies and talent development.

Delgado brings nearly 30 years of hospitality and hotel management experience as his career includes key leadership positions at hotels throughout the Southwest and Pacific U.S. Earlier in his career, he worked for The Marcus Corporation as part of the Baymont Inns & Suites division where he initially led the Baymont El Paso East Hotel as general manager before being promoted to district director. Delgado received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice from El Paso Community College.

Marcus Hotels & Resorts Appoints Carlo Vermeeren to General Manager of the Omaha Marriott Downtown at the Capitol District

Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a nationally recognized owner and management company and division of The Marcus Corporation, today announced the appointment of Carlo Vermeeren as general manager of the Omaha Marriott Downtown at the Capitol District in Omaha, Nebraska. In his new role, Vermeeren will oversee operations of the 12-story, 333-room hotel that serves as the anchor of the Capitol District, the city’s dining and entertainment district.

In this role, he managed the hotel’s multi-million-dollar renovations while leading the team to achieve quality service levels. Vermeeren has also held other roles at luxury brands, including serving as global director of guest experiences luxury and lifestyle brands at Hilton Worldwide where he was responsible for the Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts and Canopy brands. Prior to joining Marcus Hotels & Resorts, Hilton served as general manager at several hotels throughout the country.

He went on to serve at several other hotels, mostly within Marcus Hotels & Resorts’ portfolio, in various management and leadership positions. In each role Morrison excelled, earning his most recent position as general manager of the company’s Crowne Plaza Northstar in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His extensive hospitality management experience includes operations, budget development and planning, revenue management, succession planning as well as coaching and mentoring of hotel managers and staff.

Marcus Hotels & Resorts Appoints Matt Traetow as General Manager of Hyatt Regency Coralville Hotel & Conference Center

Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a nationally recognized owner and management company and division of The Marcus Corporation, today announced Matt Traetow has been appointed as general manager of the Coralville Hotel & Conference Center in Coralville, Iowa. The company will assume management of the full-service property on August 18, 2021, which is slated to be rebranded as Hyatt Regency Coralville Hotel & Conference Center. 

With over 20 years in the hospitality industry, Traetow’s career includes leadership positions in both sales and operations at upscale, full-service properties throughout Iowa and Minnesota. He most recently served as area general manager for Hotel Equities, a hotel owner, operator and development firm based in Alpharetta, Georgia. In this role, Traetow led operations of the Homewood Suites by Hilton Coralville-Iowa River Landing in Coralville, Iowa, as well as provided oversight and guidance for three other area properties. His extensive responsibilities included hiring, onboarding and training of all hotel leaders and associates; budgeting, forecasting and revenue management; as well as the successful rollout of new guest services and protocols.

Property to be Repositioned Under the Hyatt Regency Brand 

Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a nationally recognized owner and management company and division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced that it will assume management of The Coralville Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in Coralville, Iowa, effective August 18, 2021. Owned by the City of Coralville, this 286-room hotel will be rebranded under the Hyatt Regency brand as the Hyatt Regency Coralville Hotel & Conference Center as of the same date. Following the brand transition, the property will benefit from a phased renovation focusing on the Edgewater Grille restaurant and all hotel guest rooms.
