The Pfister® Hotel Names New York Fiber Artist Next Artist in Residence

MILWAUKEE – Feb. 21, 2012 – Historic tradition meets today’s talent with The Pfister Hotel’s Artist-in-Residence program. Home to more Victorian Art than any other hotel in the world, the historic hotel, which is owned and managed by Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, has hosted a popular artist residency program for the past three years. The Pfister’s selection committee has chosen Timothy Westbrook, an emerging fiber artist from New York, as its fourth artist in residence. He will move to Milwaukee for this opportunity and will work in The Pfister’s studio space beginning in April 2012, replacing current Pfister artist Shelby Keefe. Westbrook will remain at the hotel for one year.

“Drawn to The Pfister by the artistic and historical reputation of Milwaukee, I am honored by the invitation to spend a year developing my artistic voice in this unique setting,” says Westbrook. “While at The Pfister, I plan to weave cloth out of various organic and repurposed manmade materials, including items like cassette tapes, sculpting them into costumes and fashion while pulling from the inspiration of the hotel and the Victorian Decorative Arts period. I am excited to watch my weaving and costumes evolve under the inspiration of the artistic energy in Milwaukee and in the hotel.”

A recent graduate from Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY, Westbrook is a fiber artist who focuses on costume, performance and installation art. He uses fairytale themes as an environmentalist analogy. He implements his sustainable studio practices by using re-purposed materials for his work along with low-impact equipment; his favorite is a non-electric treadle sewing machine.

“We’re thrilled to welcome our first out-of-state artist to the program,” says Joe Kurth, general manager of The Pfister Hotel. “The program has been gaining national attention in the last couple of years and we’re proud it has attracted talent like Timothy’s. Selected through the juried panel process based on his impressive skill, engaging personality and unique point of view, we’re eager to introduce him and his work to our guests.”

Westbrook was one of six finalists included in the public voting period, which ended last week. In addition to the public vote via Facebook, Twitter, and in-person ballots, a selection committee, consisting of leaders in the local art community, made the final decision in choosing the next artist in residence.

This year the Illumination Ceremony festivities begin in a new venue, the resort’s expansive Grand Forum Theatre, where guests can take in some of “Christmas in the Country’s” lavish holiday displays. Guests can marvel at the hand-crafted, intricate designs of the resort’s newest holiday exhibit, Quilts of Christmas, featuring the work of local quilters.  The Forum will also serve as the home for the popular Festival of Trees display, comprised of trees decorated by area residents and businesses. MARCUS ® HOTELS & RESORTS CELEBRATES THE CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY OF THE SKIRVIN HILTON HOTEL IN OKLAHOMA CITY

$55 million restoration completed in 2007; property continues to be a strong performer

Milwaukee, Wis., October 17, 2011. . . . .Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced the 100th anniversary celebration of The Skirvin Hilton Hotel in Oklahoma City, Okla. In 2007, Marcus Hotels & Resorts completed a $55 million renovation and restoration of this historic landmark, returning the property to its former glory as the social center of Oklahoma City.

“We are delighted to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the oldest existing hotel in the state of Oklahoma. The Skirvin Hilton is a grand hotel in the tradition of historic hotels, and was our fourth historic restoration,” said Bill Otto, president of Marcus Hotels & Resorts. “While carefully retaining its historic details, we completely renovated the property and introduced successful restaurant concepts, including the Park Avenue Grill and Red Piano Bar. We are proud to be a part of this celebratory event – and proud to continue to deliver exceptional service to our Oklahoma City guests.”

The project leveraged Marcus Hotels’ 50 years of experience in restoring landmark hotels and the expertise of Skirvin Partners in Development to accomplish such a monumental rebirth of this historic icon of Oklahoma City. “This was a complex undertaking from both a restoration and financial viewpoint, involving new-market tax credits and federal and state historic tax credits. However, it was
well worth the effort. The Skirvin Hilton has been a tremendous addition to Oklahoma City and helped to revive growth and excitement of the downtown surrounding area,” said Otto. “We look forward to celebrating the Skirvin Hilton’s Centennial anniversary at events throughout the week.”

“We are extremely pleased with the way the hotel has performed,” said Brent Bryant, economic development program manager for the city of Oklahoma. “The project has far exceeded what we felt was an aggressive occupancy rate and continues to carry on its significant role in our city as the social epicenter for residents and guests alike.”

“The Skirvin Hilton has been considered the city’s crown jewel through the turbulent years and rebirth of downtown Oklahoma City in 2006. Today the hotel serves as a chronicler of the city’s history and remains an important piece of the city’s past and future,” said Martin Van Der Laan, general manager of the Skirvin Hilton.

Otto added that reinvesting in its properties continues to be a hallmark of the company. “Maintaining our assets has always been a top priority for Marcus Hotels & Resorts. We continue to enhance and renovate our existing properties so they meet the high standards of today’s travelers and hotel owners alike. We also look for opportunities to add new features and amenities, such as creative restaurant and bar concepts and relaxing spas,” said Otto. The company recently completed $30 million of renovations at the Hilton Milwaukee and Grand Geneva Resort & Spa in Lake Geneva, Wis., and renovations are in the final stages at the historic Hotel Phillips in Kansas City, Mo.

The Skirvin Hilton’s Centennial celebration will include a full week of festivities from Sunday, October 16 to Friday, October 21, 2011. All events are open to the public, and include different activities each day. Closing the week, the sold-out Centennial Black-Tie Gala, which has already raised over $145,000 for charity, will be the grand finale of the celebration. For more information on
the Skirvin Hilton Centennial events, visit www.SkirvinCentennial.com or call 405-272-3040.

The Skirvin Hilton originally opened in 1911 and has been synonymous with elegance and innovation for the past five generations, hosting oil barons, dignitaries, movie stars, political leaders and presidents ever since. Guests from around the globe have traveled through the downtown Skirvin Hilton to experience its unique sophistication and timelessness. Since the renovation in 2007, the hotel
has earned a AAA Four Diamond rating every year and received the Mayor’s Development Award for best downtown development.

With 145 hoteliers and 70 HelmsBriscoe associates from around the world in attendance, Marcus Hotels and Resorts presented a check of $15,000 to St. Joan of Arc Parish School in Nashotah, WI and $15,000 to the Milwaukee Chapter of the United Way, Marcus Corporation’s charity partner. An additional $5,000 each was given to Marriott International’s charity partner the Children’s Miracle Network to benefit a local children’s hospital in Denver, CO and the Nevada Cancer Institute, a MGM Resorts International charity partner.

HelmsBriscoe Regional Vice President Tim Lamont, the man responsible for cultivating a partnership between the two corporations, stressed the importance of relationship-building during the event. “It’s important to us to bring people together that have not only done business together, but also support organizations with a strong presence in their communities.”

Now in its second year, the Tim Cup Invitational was created as a way for Lamont to link HelmsBriscoe associates with hoteliers “outside the normal framework of an expo or site selection. This year, we really wanted to step it up a notch in terms of the donation and the overall event line-up.” During last year’s event, a $15,000 donation was made to the Prairie Hill Waldorf School in Pewaukee, WI.

Guests of the Invitational stayed at the Grand Geneva Resort & Spafor two nights, during which they participated in a volleyball tournament, dine-around, golf outing and closing Monday Night Football party. Sponsors such as MGM Resorts International, Marriott Corporation, and Meliá Hotels International convened on the resort’s championship course, The Highlands, for an interactive golf outing.

“We have a great relationship with Marcus Hotels & Resorts.” says Lamont. “Each year the event keeps getting bigger and better. We can’t wait until next year.”
